We are seeking experienced Mid-level Naval Architects to join our team in Washington, DC or suburban Baltimore. The ideal candidate will:

  • Participate in the design of marine vessels for use by U.S. government agencies
  • Assist in the evaluation of marine vessel designs developed by others
  • Assess test results to determine the implications for vessel design
  • Conduct analyses to predict the performance (powering requirements, speed, range, etc) for a vessel or prospective vessel design
  • Author or support the development of reports and/or presentations that describe designs and/or the assessment of prospective designs to TCG customers.
 
Position Requirements

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • Knowledgeable in metal corrosion / corrosion prevention principals as they apply in marine environments.
  • 3 to 7 years in vessel, boat, or ship design
  • Experienced (preferably at least one year) in the use of one or more computer applications used for hull form design or vessel performance analysis.
  • Conducted or participated in marine vessel stability analysis
  • Supported and/or used results from inclining experiments and/or weight and stability tests for marine vessels.
  • Experienced in the application of U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and/or a marine classification society's (e.g., ABS, DNV) ship design rules.
  • U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Prior support to U.S. government boat or ship construction programs.
  • Prior participation in a Major Defense Acquisition shipbuilding program or participation in a Defense or Homeland Security Department Acquisition Category I (ACAT I) shipbuilding program.

This position is contingent upon and subject to the award of the contract from the government. You will be hired on a contingency basis.
