We are seeking experienced Marine Engineers with propulsion or auxiliary systems experience to join our team in Washington, DC or suburban Baltimore. The ideal candidate will:

  • Participate in the design of propulsion or auxiliary systems in marine vessels for use by U.S. government agencies
  • Assist in the evaluation of marine vessel system designs developed by others
  • Assist in the development of vessel piping system design and vessel equipment arrangements
  • Conduct analyses to predict the performance (cooling requirements, pump requirements, pressure loss, etc.) of vessel piping and auxiliary system or propulsion system designs
  • Author or support the development of reports and/or presentations that describe designs and/or the assessment of prospective designs to TCG customers.
 
Position Requirements

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) years working in one of the following areas: [note that work in more than one of these areas requires more than three (3) years total experience]:
    1. Design and development of marine propulsion and related control systems including both arrangements and weight/stability assessments as well as conducting trade studies / analysis of alternatives for various propulsion system options.
    2. Design and development of marine vessel auxiliary and related piping systems (e.g., fire suppression, ballast water treatment, potable water, fuel, compressed air, cargo handling) including conducting analysis to support your design selections.
    3. Design and development of marine vessel HVAC and/or refrigeration systems and related piping, including conducting analysis to support your design selections.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Sofware and (preferably at least one year) in the use of AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with ABS, Naval Vessel Rules (NVR), and Commercial Ship Design rules and regulations.
  • U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Prior support to U.S. government boat or ship construction programs.
  • Prior participation in a Major Defense Acquisition shipbuilding program or participation in a Defense or Homeland Security Department Acquisition Category I (ACAT I) shipbuilding program.

This position is contingent upon and subject to the award of the contract from the government. You will be hired on a contingency basis.
