Share Email Opening Title Referral and Authorizations Coordinator  Category Billing   Description POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for obtaining referrals from primary care physicians (PCP) and authorizations from insurance companies for office visits, testing and hospital procedures when the plan requires authorizations. Verifies insurance and applies correct plan information in patient’s accounts. Notifies patients of out-of-pocket responsibility for testing and procedures. This position is typically required to work mandatory overtime January through March of each calendar year which may include working on weekends. Please note that the overtime may be changed, modified, or canceled at any time with or without notice.   This is a Monday-Friday position, pay starting at $18.00 per hour DOE.   ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Runs the schedule. Complete schedule within 3 days. Verifies insurances: Primary and Secondary Faxes out referral requests to the patient’s primary care physician (PCP) Requests authorizations from insurances for all high-end testing. Contacts insurances if necessary, regarding information that cannot be obtained via web sites. Contacts the patient when insurance updates are required. Scans referrals and authorizations into registration, once received. Enters necessary changes into the patient’s account prior to the scheduled appointment. Runs daily scheduled add-ons, checks for testing that requires an authorization, appointments that required referrals and verifies insurance. Notifies NTM scheduler by e-mail on all denied NTM appointments. Verifies insurances and obtains authorizations for all inpatient and outpatient hospital procedures. Works closely with the procedures schedulers to assure authorizations are entered before procedures are performed. Consistently seeks resources to stay informed on changing authorization requirements for testing and procedures.   Position Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products Knowledge of HIPAA regulations Knowledge of medical insurances Skill with working with multi-line telephone system Skill in working with outside facilities Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work in a fast paced-environment and work well under pressure Ability to maintain professionalism at all times   EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one – two years medical referral/authorization experience Prior experience with obtaining authorizations is required. Detail oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.
