The Creative Arts March Break Respite Camp is a day camp for children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays. Participants will interact and play through music, visual art, movement and drama. The goal of the program is to enable participants to have fun through creative, sensory and social experiences and to provide respite relief to families during the March Break school holiday (March 13-17, 2023). Successful candidates must be flexible to participate in training and meetings starting in February 10, 2023 after business hours or on weekends. An additional, mandatory full-team training session is being held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 (afternoon) and a full prep day on Sat. March 11, 2023.

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead visual arts with a partner
  • To plan and deliver visual art activities with the artistic team to accommodate diverse needs of participants
  • Demonstrated ability to enable creativity of others
  • To work with an integrated group of children and youth using various forms of visual arts, e.g. clay, sculpture, painting, etc.
  • Contribute to planning meetings/initiate/develop program of activities for the week
  • Assist safe participation of clients
  • Supervise lunch/break times of clients as needed
  • Collaborate with program staff, volunteers and families
  • Work as a team member, with Care Team and Artistic Team, in order to ensure programming goals are met
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  •  
  • BFA or college diploma/certificate in the arts/drama or equivalent
  • Preferred education & experience in visual arts techniques and training/skills related to children and youth with developmental and acquired disabilities
  • Additional related skill set such as music an asset
  • Minimum of one-year experience in the practice of visual arts facilitation; 1:1 and group facilitation
  • CPR HS (Heart Saver) Must be obtained prior to first day of employment
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating visual arts programs
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage full participation in activity area
  • Must be flexible, have the ability to assess the needs of individuals and quickly respond to needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with staff/clients/families
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
  • Sound judgment, communication and ability to work independently at times
  • Ability to lift, transfer, position, & feed participants ages 4 to 21 independently if needed and with support
  • Ability to guide volunteers and one to one facilitators
  • Ability to take direction
