Description

The Development Coordinator is a key member of the development team and will be integral to the development program for the food bank. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn and develop a wide-variety of skills and experience in Development at an organization that serves as the backbone of the region’s hunger relief efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience executing development strategies for non-profit organizations and a commitment to the mission and values of Capital Area Food Bank.

 
Position Requirements

Responsibilities

Research and Development Operations – approx. 40%

  • Help further CAFB’s understanding of current and prospective donors and institutional funders through both one-to-one research and the development and implementation of broad-based research tools, including wealth and giving history screening and database integration
  • Construct research profiles on current donors, prospects and new qualified prospects from the tools provided.  Note any alignments to their personal and professional background to our mission and programs for the purpose of strategy and developing appropriate action items.
  • Assist in preparations for donor meetings
  • Data entry of new prospects information and upload any new information gleaned on current contacts in Sales Force database
  • Update key data, including contact information, formatting and duplicate reconciliation
  • Support Salesforce pipeline management
  • Help coordinate reports and activities with key members of the CAFB team, including with the Executive Leadership Team
  • Project manage key team-wide projects and initiatives
  • Create, edit and troubleshoot key reports using Salesforce CRM system
  • Learn gift entry basics to troubleshoot gift entry into Salesforce and support the Donor Services team during peak times (1-2 times annually)

Events – approx. 30%

  • Help plan and execute special events, tours, receptions and volunteer events, in coordination with annual strategic operating plans
  • Assist in project managing engagement activities, small group dinners and capital campaign opportunities. Currently conducting 5-6 events a year with an interest to build more efficiencies in the process to enable more event opportunities
  • Work across teams to design, coordinate and execute successful events
  • Participate in relevant community engagement events to represent CAFB and our work

Outreach – approx. 30%

  • Draft fundraising communications to be used in major donor outreach and stewardship, both on an individual and broad-based level
  • Help facilitate donor acknowledgment letters, thank you letters, and special outreach from the team and CEO
  • Serve as a resource to our donors through helping field calls and donor requests
  • Help facilitate and execute the team’s Donor Stewardship Matrix
  • Conduct thank you calls, send thank you notes, and assist with key stewardship touchpoints
  • Assist with prospective outreach including calls, letters, and emails to increase donor engagement and foster new relationships

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in fundraising or a closely related area; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • BA from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Experience working with sensitive information and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Baseline knowledge of fundraising best practices.
  • Experience in a detail-oriented, yet innovative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to donors, volunteers, colleagues, and Institute leadership
  • Self-motivated (a “self-starter”), innovative, and having the ability to work with considerable independence within the context of a team environment and a network of relationships.
  • Superior written and oral communication, negotiating, organizational, analytical, and fundraising skills, including the ability to interpret financial information and manage data.
  • Meaningful prior experience with donor database/CRM software is required (Sales Force preferred), as well as excellent proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • The desire to be part of a fast-paced, high-energy, and collaborative team of high-performing and mission-driven development professionals.

Physical requirements

  • Physical activities involve sitting for 80% of the work day.
  • Occasionally lifts office supplies up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Normal business office, with frequent tight deadlines
  • Work may take place in the food bank’s warehouse distribution center, or at community organizations
  • Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm; with weekends or extended hours for special events.
