Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is a non-profit organization with 11 stores, seven donation centers, a logistics center and an online auction site. In addition, we operate two employment service centers and a home for veterans experiencing homelessness. The money raised by the sale of donations goes to fund our free programs. Our programs include: helping people find employment, assisting our veterans with job services and resource referral, serving youth around the area with several different programs, and operating a 15-bed home for veterans. Goodwill has been serving Central Illinois since 1934.

What will the job look like?

The Grant Accountant will perform accounting activities including, grant accounting, monthly journal entries, grant budgets, accounts payable/cash disbursements, fixed assets, and other general accounting responsibilities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.

What are the essential responsibilities?

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and general ledger closing functions
  • Perform Grant Accounting including monthly analysis of grant activity and monthly meetings with grant program managers. Track and prepare required reporting to funding agencies.
  • Prepare grant invoicing/payment requests on a timely basis.
  • Partner with Program Services to complete applications for new grant funding.
  • Perform Accounts Payable activities including: Receive invoice and obtain required approvals; verify accuracy of invoices; coding of invoices to the proper general ledger accounts and locations; monitor payables for timely payment; input of payables into accounting software for check preparation; prepare checks; follow procedures for check signatures; file paid invoices.
  • Maintain and reconcile agency issued credit card statements and purchase approval forms on a monthly basis.
  • Perform Fixed Asset Accounting
  • In partnership with the Assistant Director of Finance oversee the completion and management of budgets, audits, reports to government, state and county agencies and other outside funding sources.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies
  • In partnership with the Assistant Director of Finance assist with the general ledger activities to include closing, analysis, and production of financial statements including appropriate revisions and updates.
  • In partnership with the Assistant Director of Finance provide financial reports and information, training and assistance to management throughout the organization.
  • Maintain Accounting systems and records in accordance with department and management needs and retention standards.
  • Responsible for adherence to all safety standards
  • Follow policies and procedures as outlined in the Personnel Policy Manual
  • Other related duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Associate's degree in Accounting (A.A) from two-year college or technical school with three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience working with grant administration, accounting and/or management desirable.
    • Must be an experienced user with Microsoft Excel and Word.
