Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Position Summary:

The Director of Communications is a mission-driven, experienced professional with a deep passion for Catholic secondary education. The Director of Communications co-directs the in-house Communications & Marketing team with the Creative Director in influencing the public's perception of Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory through communications strategy and materials. This position reports to the Vice President for Advancement, Communications & Enrollment.

Mission

  • Invest in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers through active mission and Catholic formation.

  • Provide exemplary personal and professional presence throughout the San Francisco and greater Bay Area community and actively promote SHC's mission, philosophy, and brand among all current and future stakeholders.

  • Model integrity, spiritual focus, ethical behavior, fiscal responsibility and managerial excellence in support of the mission of SHC.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Major Areas of Responsibility (including but not limited to)

  • Establish and drive multi-channel communications strategies to increase SHC's mission awareness and engagement throughout the Bay Area

  • In concert with the Creative Director, develop and execute strategies to maximize the impact of the SHC website

  • Expand SHC's social media engagement by implementing content strategies, analyzing engagement data, and identifying trends in constituent interactions

  • Develop, mentor, and manage a team of student interns to help procure engaging content and brand awareness throughout the SHC community

  • Increase public awareness and perceptions to help attract students and resources

  • In collaboration with the Creative Director, help conceptualize and execute high-quality marketing materials including but not limited to admissions materials, social media assets, investor communications, event promotion and advertisements

  • Conduct market research and data analysis

  • Responsible for the production timeline, writing, and editing/proofreading of all school marketing materials, publications and communications

  • Serve as the primary contact for all media, both proactive and reactive, generating press releases and/or making contact with appropriate media outlets

  • Develop and maintain a school-wide marketing and publication budget

  • Help extend the SHC brand in all possible ways

Supervisory Responsibilities: 1 (FTE), 2 (PTE), student interns

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the communications field

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; pleasant, warm demeanor

  • Must show a high level of initiative and follow through with the ability to work independently

  • Strong organizational, staff and project management skills

  • Exceptional strategic thinking skills, understanding of markets, trends, and demographics

  • Ability to collect and analyze data and use it in developing communication strategies

  • Effective decision-making skills

  • Detail-oriented, flexible, strong work ethic

  • Experience in customer service or sales

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a diverse, inclusive work environment

  • Familiarity with web technologies and content management systems

  • Deep knowledge of the AP Stylebook

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Certifications and/or Licensure
None

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
At least 10 years of experience in the communications field

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google/Gmail and internet usage, and; database management preferred
