Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Roanoke Connect Holdings is seeking an OSP Fiber Design Engineer with experience in OSP mapping (reading and/or drafting). This role will contribute to designing new fiber connection points for both residential and commercial customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying local tie-in points and new fiber routes to serve local customers and for assigning the official design to a fiber design contractor. This role will also be responsible for updating milestone tracking databases for the design process lifecycle therefore, project tracking experience is important. Finally, this role will provide cost estimating based on RCH contracted rates.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design and develop layouts for OSP Fiber routes / Laterals from tie point to customer premise.

a. Be able to determine the closest point to tie in a new customer to an existing fiber plant.

b. Analyze OTDR traces, evaluate characteristics of fiber and document test results.

c. Create and maintain appropriate technical documentation.

d. Assist in troubleshooting fiber circuits for light and path continuity.

  1. Upload and verify completed work orders to GIS database software used for fiber FTTH engineering.
  2. Use GIS software to analyze the spatial and non-spatial information in the database.
  3. Use selected mapping solution for performing majority of work and maintaining accurate mapping data; includes, but not limited to, creating, and maintaining maps/mapping data used for obtaining/reporting for grants, federal/state/local reporting, and communication efforts including marketing materials and presentations.
  4. Support RCH departments by providing GIS data transfers, graphical and data analysis and maps to support business decisions and efficient workflow.
  5. Work closely with fiber network design consultant to receive regular GIS updates and verify data of completed fiber network.
  6. Develop ISP Patch panel diagrams/cable rack layouts.
  7. Generation of bills of materials, splice sheets, costs and other supporting documentation for design. Review completed design for errors and efficiency

a. Address data verification and ingestion

b. Supports Leadership team with fiber design documents.

c. Ensure design specifications are maintained.

  1. Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  2. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

3-5 Years’ experience required

Industry certification desired

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of underground and overhead permitting desired.
  2. Knowledge of pole lines, make ready assessments and system maps preferred.
  3. Knowledge of easement, right-of-way, and permit documents is preferred.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  5. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others.
  6. The ability to think creatively and strategically is a must.
  7. Competence in design methodology, process, and metrics.
  8. Ability to review utility as-built maps (fiber, telco, etc.) to identify current routes and splice points.
  9. Experience in OSP construction, fiber construction, copper construction, utility construction.
  10. Visual design skills are a strong plus.
