Salary: $19.16/hourly

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs administrative operational and technical support to assigned unit. Operate radio transmission equipment. React to any emergencies or physical confrontations in a controlled work environment.

The work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors facility entries to and exit from the Correctional Facility utilizing activity logs, briefing books.
  • Monitors incoming telephone calls from the public, 911 dispatchers, field officers for distribution to appropriate staff for assistance.
  • Monitors security cameras and audio equipment. Visually and/or verbally identifies all persons being admitted and/or released from the Facility.
  • Ensures that firearms and ammunition are secured in the gun locker; conducts inventories of corrections officer’s supplies and equipment.
  • Reviews and maintains booking forms, inmate records, and court documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Examines and interprets court orders and releases to verify validity of each prisoner’s release; maintains Correction’s records.
  • Conducts manual and automated queries for criminal history checks; enters inmate data into the Jail Management Information System.
  • Prepares forms, logs and reports documenting activities; receives funds, maintains accounts and performs l advanced clerical functions as required.
  • Searches the U. S. Mail for contraband in accordance to security policies and notifies supervisor of security breaches.
  • Maintains the security and accountability of any and all keys issued or received.
  • Performs clerical duties including typing, filing, and data entry.
  • Perform driving responsibilities in the course of job duty requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries about various procedures or general requests from the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O’odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of correctional facility operational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of correctional security systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of cash handling/accounting procedures.
  • Skill in use of computers and word processing software and databases i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, NCIC, ACIC, Spillman Database.
  • Skill in operation of multi-line phone systems; general office machines and two way radios.
  • Skill in English grammar, spelling and arithmetic.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in verbal confrontations with angry and irate inmates/public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and employees and Officials of the Tohono O’odham Nation, and prisoners/detainees of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain privileged confidential information reports and records.
  • Ability to complete a specified, specialty training on Corrections Security and Emergency Procedures.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules including nights, holidays and weekends and work under stressful situations.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma or higher degree of learning in criminal justice, correctional facilities operations and three years’ work experience in corrections or law enforcement support, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Security Clearance:

  • Any adverse background information disclosed or obtained in criminal and/or traffic records check will disqualify applicant.
  • Any falsification of application information may result in immediate disqualification from further employment consideration.??????

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Must type 40 WPM.
  • Must demonstrate seventy percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math.
  • Must continue to meet suitability requirements for law enforcement.
  • Must maintain access certification as a requirement for all criminal history databases (NCIC, ACIC, Spillman) and any communications systems required for inmate records.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver’s license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required stand or sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Physical confrontations in the performance of job duties periodically occur.
