Location: Waltham, MA

We are currently seeking a Master/PhD students for a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023.

 

Objectives/Goals of the Position:

  • To offer the opportunity for a future statistician in health research to gain relevant skills and experience in drug development particulary in areas of concern to early oncology biostatistics.
  • The project work of the interm will be used to improve the biometrics function’s understanding of the clinical trial design and statistical challenges recently evolved in the industry, and help us develop basic frameworks and methods/solutions to align departmental strategy and improve efficiency.
  • Following the recommendations from the FDA’s Project Optimus, the intern will conduct review of published methodologies, internal proposals from AZ that are reletive to dose optimisation in early oncology setting, summarize and conduct some simulations to provide a general guidance on dose optimization in early oncology clinical trials.
  • Simulations will be conducted to evaluate the operating characteristics and possibly other properties of the method(s) being considered.
  • The intern will implement the recommended method to conduct a review/critique of selected legacy or live study protocols and use these protocols as case studies to incorporate dose optimisation considerations.
 
Position Requirements

 

  • Basic understanding of drug development process and key statistical considerations from early to late phase clinical trial designs;

  • Applying Bayesian or frequentist statistics in decision making and sample size evaluations in drug development plans;

  • Dose-finding methodology in early phase clinical trials (Plus);

  • Using statistical simulations to evaluate the operating characteristics of statistical decision criteria.

  • Fluency in R/SAS. (R preferred)

  • Familiarity with Oncology drug development (Plus)

  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
