Salary: $25.76/hourly

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, protects the tribal assets and ensures the integrity of the Tohono O’odham Nation’s (Nation) gaming operations by monitoring the gaming operations and facility to ensure compliance with state compact, the Nation’s ordinances, regulations, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), and the Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS).

The work is normally reviewed upon completion to ensure compliance with general organization and department goals, policies and procedures. Major work activities are covered by procedures or guidelines permitting flexibility in selecting methods to utilize and procedures to follow, determination of work priorities, and the planning and coordination of projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors casino from the surveillance room or casino floor to observe operations and ensure compliance with controls and standards. Maintains incidence log of all activities.
  • Works with security and financial records and personnel in addressing and resolving problems and unusual or suspect occurrences.
  • Prepares incident reports and performs investigations of alleged compact and ordinance violations with recommendations of possible violations to Chief Gaming Inspector.
  • Receives and evaluates customer complaints; determines and implements appropriate course of action in accordance with the Ordinance, regulations and Compact.
  • Tracks all machine repairs and entries and updates database as required.
  • Safeguards and ensures proper use of equipment and keys.
  • Maintains visitor/vendor/contractor log; issues badges as required.
  • Recommends new or revised regulations to effectively and efficiently control casino operations.
  • Assists Arizona Department of Gaming in conducting testing of equipment and devices.
  • Performs the testing, evaluating, and certifications of all gaming machines, equipment to ensure compliance with the compact and appendices.
  • Ensures all gaming activities, such as gaming devices, Keno, Bingo, Blackjack and Jackpot Poker are functioning in accordance with appropriate appendices and internal controls.
  • After notification from casino departments and completion of necessary documents, evaluates and gives written permission to vendors requiring access to secured areas for a specific purpose.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O’odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of gaming operations, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computer software.
  • Skill in using two-way radios to communicate.
  • Skill in using computer software to generate reports and statistical information.
  • Skill in applying surveillance principles.
  • Skill in developing statistical reports and report writing.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Ability to resolve problems and issues.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and four year’s work experience in security or a regulatory field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must be certified by the Arizona Department of Gaming and/or Licensed by the Tohono O’odham Nation before hire.
  • Must demonstrate seventy percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background check with NO prior convictions of any felonies is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver’s license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Its four non-contiguous segments total more than 2.8 million acres at an elevation of 2,674 feet.
