The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures advances the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Grounds Lead, the Groundskeeper will be responsible for maintaining the Museum’s physical condition and functional outdoor space. Daily activities include cleaning and resetting furniture, care for trees and plants, hardscape, and sidewalks. You will thrive in this role if you have knowledge of grounds equipment, maintenance, and safety procedures, along with a passion to create a clean and welcoming environment for our visitors.

You Will:

  • Maintain landscape (trees, groundcovers, shrubs, and annual/perennial color displays).
  • Perform grounds maintenance work, including planting, cultivating, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, and irrigating trees, shrubs, hedges, and lawns. Water plants by hand.
  • Be responsible for setting up interior and exterior furniture for our events.
  • Perform weed abatement and other grounds-related functions.
  • Operate groundskeeping power equipment.
  • Operate grounds-related equipment and tools.
  • Assist with the clearing of trash and other debris.
  • Assist with maintenance of DG (decompose granite), walkways, sidewalk, fences, and other areas.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, supervisors, administrator, customers, and visitors.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • 1+ years of grounds, custodial, or set-up services related experience.
  • Knowledge of grounds care techniques.
  • Knowledge of irrigation system and maintenance is a plus.
  • Knowledge of proper caring for DG (decompose granite) is a plus.
  • Sprinkler system experience is a plus.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule to include different shifts, weekends, holidays, some overtime, and late nights.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Work under adverse situations and conditions (dirty, noisy, etc.).
  • Work on ladders, lifts, and heights comfortably.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods of time.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable.

The expected base hourly wage for this role is $23.50. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
