Job Description:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Development Leader and working closely with Engineering and other key stakeholders, the Machinist will provide services including operation of CNC and manual machine tools, mechanical design, construction, installation, maintenance, and testing of first-of-a-kind engineering equipment in support of Global Laser Enrichment’s (GLE) uranium enrichment technology development program.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of CNC and manual machine tools to support manufacturing of prototype hardware (includes EDM, milling and lathe operations)
  • Generation of manufacturing plans, part programs, and development of fixtures and work holding methodologies
  • Collaborate with mechanical design engineers to address manufacturability concerns early in the design process
  • Perform fabrication, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of various components and systems as needed
  • Provide input to design engineers and other engineering team members for continuous improvement
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Perform basic machine maintenance as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret)
  • Completion of college degree, apprenticeship, or certificate program within the field of manufacturing
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience operation of CNC machine tools (wire EDM, mill, lathe, CMM)
  • Ability to generate G&M code programs to drive CNC machine tools
  • Ability to read and interrupt 2D drawings to develop manufacturing and inspection plans
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and the manufacturing process that can be used to obtain the desired results
  • Proficient at the use of basic hand inspection tools and techniques
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: equipment assembly, pipefitting/welding, millwright
  • Experience with Surfcam or a similar 3D CAM package
  • Experience with SolidWorks or a similar 3D design package
  • Experience with lifting and rigging
  • Experience working in classified and/or highly regulated environments
