Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is looking for a Case Manager to join our Middle River Regional Jail team! Under the direction of the Lead Jail Clinician, the Case Manager provides comprehensive case management and care coordination services to adults held at the Middle River Regional Jail to facilitate re-entry into the community.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with clients based on courtesy, compassion, and respect.
  • Conducts assessments to determine appropriate supports.
  • Ensures linkage between MRRJ and community services to foster a successful transition.
  • Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational team to coordinate services for inmates.
  • Provides crisis stabilization as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic human needs.
  • Community resources.
  • Interviewing techniques.
  • Basic psychopathology.
  • Criminogenic risk factors for recidivism.
  • Clinical casework documentation requirements.
  • Etiology and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, including psychotropic medication.
  • Basic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ethical standards governing helping relationships.

Skills pertaining to:

  • Assessment of a client's ability to adequately maintain themselves in the community.
  • Helping clients identify appropriate resources for support.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Written and oral communication.

Ability to:

  • Advocate for clients.
  • Intervene in a crisis.
  • Work effectively with adults with a wide range of mental and substance use disorders or co-occurring disorder.
  • Form productive, professional relationships with clients and their families, as well as colleagues within and external to VCSB.
  • Organize and work effectively.
  • Communicate clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgment.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside VCSB.
  • Maintain high professional ethical standards and appropriate confidentiality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.
  • Previous work or internship experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must pass required pre-employment screenings, including, but not limited to, criminal history and experience verification.
  • Current Virginia driver’s license with zero points or more.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) certification preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience serving incarcerated adults with mental health or substance use challenges.

Salary Information Starting at $35,568 annually.
