Description

Reporting to the Operations Manager and working closely with the various engineering teams, the Laser Technician is responsible for achieving and maintaining optimum performance of GLE pulsed CO2 lasers and associated subsystems. The Laser Technician will work closely with Laser Engineering personnel as well as Operations, Process Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and other staff to integrate their work into program goals supporting commercialization of GLE's technology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of lasers and laser support systems
  • Setup and alignment of free-space laser transport optics
  • Characterization of lasers with various measurements and diagnostic equipment
  • Support infrared measurement development and analysis
  • Ability to work directly with laser engineers and other members of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication, computer, and technical writing skills

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS):

  • Immediately report any safety or environmental incidents, unsafe acts or conditions, and near misses to the Company's management
  • Adhere to the Company's EHS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements relating to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace
  • Contribute to the GLE safety culture by proactively applying EHS principles and best practices to the planning, execution, and conclusion of all activities

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent strongly preferred
  • A.S. in Lasers and Photonics or a related field required; B.S. in Physics, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience working as a laser technician or similar role
  • Experience working in classified and/or highly regulated environments preferred
  • General understanding of laser safety requirements
  • Experience with installing optical and electrical components
  • Demonstrated ability to work in technology areas with limited direction
  • Experience with pulsed CO2 lasers
  • Preferred experience with RF sources
  • Preferred experience with non-linear optics
  • Self-motivated with a good work ethic
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
