The hiring pay range is $16.91 - $21.14/hr

The pay range is $16.91 - $25.37/hr

 

General Purpose:

Under limited supervision provide a high level of customer service. Maintain Fairgrounds facilities, grounds and equipment. Perform manual labor, custodial duties & repair work. Operate various maintenance equipment & schedule and perform preventive vehicle maintenance.

Fairgrounds Associate I

  1. Provides a high level of customer service including but not limited to: monitoring events, responding professionally to customers, providing information, answering questions, checking events in and out, completing event paperwork and addressing and resolving issues.
  2. Communicates and enforces Fairground policies and procedures, in a professional manner.
  3. Ensures excellent customer service by attending to the many needs of event-goers, paying attention to details and overall representation of Garfield County in a positive, friendly manner.
  4. Work schedule will requires essential job functions be performed days, nights, weekends & holidays.
  5. Assists customers with the set-up and take down of events.
  6. Ensures footing/arena dirt is safe and prepared properly, in accordance to event standards.
  7. Performs manual labor tasks. Cleaning of stalls, barns, arenas, servicing equipment, sweeping/mopping, operating floor cleaning equipment, painting, repairing, loading & unloading supplies, maintaining inventory of supplies, and removing trash & debris.
  8. Performs general maintenance of grounds, equipment and facilities.
  9. Performs snow removal and other weather-related maintenance activities.
  10. Keeps tools, vehicles and equipment clean and in safe operating order, and follows all procedures for safe and efficient operation of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  11. May provide general instructions & directions to correctional facility labor, community service labor, inmate labor, and/or temporary or seasonal workers. Responsible for notifying the specific correctional facility immediately if disciplinary action is required.
  12. Observes county safety policies and procedures, wears appropriate safety and personal protective equipment required for the task being performed.
  13. Drives vehicles or equipment to perform one or more essential functions.
  14. Performs other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.

 

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience: Providing high level of customer service, in manual labor, setting up and event operations, operating light- to medium-sized equipment, using computer software programs and a smart phone.

Licenses/Certifications: First Aid/CPR certification; Valid driver’s license; Complete an on-line course in Trained Crowd Management within 3 months of date of hire.

 

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  1. Customer service standards and procedures.
  2. Basic techniques and practices in carpentry, electrical systems, and plumbing systems.
  3. Basic principles, techniques, and practices of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
  4. Basic principles of building maintenance and repair methods.
  5. Basic principles of grounds maintenance including landscaping and sprinkler repair.
  6. Basic techniques of radio communication.
  7. Basic knowledge of how to operate P.A. systems and soundboards.
  8. Basic knowledge of horse and livestock behaviors.
  9. Modern office processes and procedures.
  10. Footing requirements for various equine disciplines. (i.e. barrel racing, roping, reining)
  11. Basic arithmetic functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
  12. Relevant computer hardware and software applications.

 

Ability to:

  1. Speak, read and write the English language.
  2. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  3. Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  4. Take initiative and focus on details.
  5. Adapt to frequent changes in tasks.
  6. Supervise work processes and give clear direction regarding such processes.
  7. Train volunteer, correctional facility labor, community service labor, part time and seasonal employees in proper safety procedures.
  8. Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments delegated to others.
  9. Operate vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: snow removal equipment, mowers, brooms, leaf/debris blower, front-end loaders, air system, water trucks and vibrating compactor roller.
  10. Operate tractors with various attachments.
  11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  12. Understand and practice safety procedures and precautions.
  13. Maintain confidentiality.
  14. Work various shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends, as directed by Supervisor.

Frequently interacts with other Department employees.

 

External Contacts:

Frequently interacts with the public, vendors; law enforcement, public safety agencies or other organizations. Oversees the work of laborers from correctional facility and community service and temporary or seasonal workers.

Required Physical Activities:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, crouch and crawl and to taste and smell; is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and to exert up to 100 pounds of force; is occasionally required to maintain body balance while ascending or descending ladders, and to maintain body equilibrium while bending at the waist or at the knees. The employee is required to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods. The employee is routinely required to work with the hand or hands in handling, seizing, holding, or grasping motions and with the fingers in fingering, picking and pinching actions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently, and for extended periods, exposed to outdoor weather conditions, which may vary from extreme heat to extreme cold. The employee is exposed to vibration from equipment and the possibility of bodily injury from electrical shock and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools or machinery. The employee occasionally works in and around high volume traffic, high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to livestock, dogs, dust & livestock manure.

The employee is required to wear safety equipment to perform most of the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is typically loud. There are frequent interruptions and multiple demands and high pressure situations.

The employee is required to work outside of normal business hours at the discretion of the Supervisor.

 

Required Travel:

The employee is required to travel between County facilities.

 

Computers and Office Equipment:

Computer and relevant software applications; telephone system; facsimile; copier; security system, camera; two-way radio; PA System; sound board; smart phone and tablet..

 

Other Equipment:

A variety of light and heavy equipment (e.g. mower, snow removal equipment, brooms, blowers, tractor, backhoe, front end loader, four wheel drive, skid steer, lift, extend-a-boom forklift, service vehicle, water truck, compact roller) used in the routine maintenance of the grounds, arena, & roads at the Fairgrounds.
