POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse position is responsible for treatment and care of our surgical patients. They record patient symptoms, administer medications and assist with patient rehabilitation. The LPN educates patients and family members about medical conditions, and provides emotional support. LPNs work within the context of the surgical team to provide care to individuals before, during and after a surgical procedure.

Starting Wage $22 - $24 per hour DOE

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods; collaborates with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.
  • Assist surgeon and surgical staff during procedure by passing sterile instruments, supplies, sutures as needed and in such a manner so that their attention is not diverted from the operative field.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards; following ASC philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Prepare operating room, ensuring that all of the equipment needed for the procedure is properly disinfected and assembled; and check to ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Observe strict aseptic technique throughout the entire procedure and reports breaks in technique to the circulating nurse and surgeon.
  • Isolate soiled or contaminated instruments and supplies to minimize the spread of infection.
  • Receive specimen and prepare it for laboratory.
  • Clean and restocking operating room following each procedure.
  • Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities as determined by the Director of Nursing and Doctor(s).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • LPN degree is required.
  • LPN license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Indiana.
  • Current certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required.
  • Completion of Surgical Technician training program and minimum of one year related work experience in operating room is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered.
  • Membership in surgical specialty society encouraged.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):

  • Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Stooping, Grasping, Lifting, Talking, Hearing.
  • Physical requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity.
  • The worker may be exposed to the following hazards:

  • Blood and Bloodborne pathogens
