Location: Gaithersburg,MD

We are currently seeking rising undergraduate sophomores, juniors, or seniors working towards a bachelor's degree in regulatory affairs, public health, health policy, engineering, data science, or undecided with an interest in data analytics and/or metrics for a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023. 

Objectives/Goals of the Position:

The intern will have experiences and gain knowledge in the following areas: 

  • Ability to formulate and test a hypotheses using available data.
  • Analysis of data by various demographic and categorical factors to look for trends and make conclusions and recommendations about future work.
  • Health Authority processes for public review and comment.
  • Content of pharmaceutical guidance and regulations.
  • Exposure to multiple global health authority regulatory documents.
  • Understanding of external advocacy processes within a regulated industry.

Primary Duties:

The summer intern will have access to 1-2 years of data on the regulatory commenting history of AstraZeneca. (currently on SPOL site)   In collaboration with a supervisor, the student will select potential queries, review records and complete analysis to identify trends.  End of summer presentation to include hypothesis, data gathering methods and results.   Example queries could include:  

  • How many of the opportunities for commenting were acted upon vs. not? 
  • What portion of the commenting opportunities and submissions were coming from US, EU, or other global markets?  
  • How many and what types of commenting opportunities were related to advocacy priority topics? 
  • Which functions within the company were most active in responding to opportunities?

Summer intern will be included in policy forms and discussions with internal AZ leaders.    Depending on opportunity, interest and skill set, intern may attend a public workshop or meeting with health authorities.

 
Position Requirements
  • Rising undergraduate sophomores, juniors, or seniors working towards a bachelor's degree in regulatory affairs, public health, health policy, engineering, data science, or undecided with an interest in data analytics and/or metrics.
  • Basic math and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, or equivalent tools, including Excel/Sheets. Database experience is a plus.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0+
