Hiring pay range: $48,776.00 - $60,964.80/an ($23.45 - $29.31/hr)

Full pay range: $48,776.00 - $73,174.40/an ($23.45 - $35.18/hr)

General Purpose:

Coordinate and implement programs aimed at promoting health and nutrition throughout the community. Provide nutrition counseling and education in both one-on-one and group settings.

Essential Functions:

(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments and detailed work instructions may vary.)

  1. Ensure compliance with County and Department policies and relevant Federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, codes and/or statutes.
  2. Coordinate all aspects of the Cooking Matters Program including: implementing gold standard programming, maintain program inventory, providing all materials and equipment, maintain at least an 85% graduation rate and teaching portions of the program as necessary.
  3. Create appropriate menus for senior congregate meal programs.
  4. Plan, coordinate and implement other community nutrition programs, as assigned by supervisor.
  5. Assess individual and community nutrition needs for prevention and or/education.
  6. Provide nutrition education and counseling services to WIC program participants.
  7. Coach and train program volunteers.
  8. Develop and maintain educational support resources.
  9. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation & reports on all participates and programs.
  10. Adhere to all requirements and reporting regulations associated with maintaining registration as a dietitian including continuous education by attending seminar/training programs and reading trade and professional journals and publications.
  11. Establish relationships and collaborate with community agencies.
  12. Drives vehicle to perform one or more essential functions.
  13. Performs other duties of a similar or related level and assists with special projects as necessary or assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science with major studies in foods and human nutrition.

Minimum Experience: 1year of experience in public health or in a hospital setting.

Licenses/Certifications: Registered Dietitian (RD) with Commission on Dietetic Registration.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

Knowledge of:

  1. Relevant Federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, codes and/or statutes.
  2. Human nutrition in health and nutrition needs for disease and its application to public health practices.
  3. The proper health of infants, children and women during the prenatal, postpartum and breastfeeding stages.
  4. Best practices for effective nutrition counseling.
  5. Basic accounting and budgeting processes.
  6. Modern office processes and procedures.
  7. Relevant computer hardware and software applications.

 

Ability to:

  1. Speak, read and write the English language.
  2. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  3. Train and counsel in educational concepts and methods.
  4. Prepare forms and educational materials and prepare and deliver in-service trainings.
  5. Collaborate with other agencies to promote public health issues.
  6. Interpret a variety of instructions with abstract and/or concrete variables.
  7. Conduct research; write and/or generate reports.
  8. Read, analyze and interpret professional journals or periodicals, procedures and government regulations.
  9. Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  10. Use resources to organize and plan and to make decisions and solve problems.
  11. Analyze financial data and develop and monitor annual budget.
  12. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, team leads, supervisors, other Departments/Offices, other agencies and organizations.
  13. Understand, practice and enforce safety procedures and precautions.
  14. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Required Physical Activities:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, finger, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, walk, talk and hear; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Garfield County once their critical personal and family emergency responsibilities have been met.

 

Work Environment:

The noise level in the office and clinic settings is moderately loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to pathogens via body fluids. The employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings.

 

Required Travel:

The employee is often required to travel between County offices.

 

Computers and Office Equipment:

Computer and relevant software applications; telephone system; facsimile; scanner; shredder; and copier.
