JOB SUMMARY:

The Beacons Youth Worker supports the implementation of youth development programming.  The Beacons Youth Worker will build relationships with participants and their families to support academic and social success.  This position will exhibit leadership and participation in all activities and will be responsible for co-leading, implementing and providing direct service to program participants in grades K-8. The Beacons Youth Worker will help to create a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for youth, family and staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Implement programming:

  •  Provide educational, recreational and youth development activities for participants.

·         In collaboration with the Beacons team, plan, implement and actively participate in programming and events.

·         Supervise youth participants during program activities.

·         Support office administration.

  • Foster a safe, open and respectful community environment.

 

Collaborate with Minneapolis Public Schools, other Beacon sites, youth serving organizations and families:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, families and other youth serving organizations.
  • Share expertise with YWCA of Minneapolis and other Beacon colleagues.

 

Provide documentation of program activities:

·         Provide input for monthly report summaries of activities and impact on participants.

 

Seek continuous professional development:

·         Participate in learning experiences that enhance programming efforts.

  • Participate and attend in-service and training.
  • Attend and participate in Beacon staff meetings, Beacon collaborative activities and school events.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Beacon Program Coordinator who reports to the Beacon Center Manager. Critical relationships include; Beacons Lead Youth Counselor, Beacon Educational Instructors, Beacons Youth Counselors, parents, youth, YWCA, school and program staff and other community agencies.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Must be enrolled and attending high school or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth and families in diverse urban environments.

·         Excellent initiative and work independently under minimal supervision.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and experience building relationships with families.

·         Demonstrated Ability to work as a team player.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

 

Preferred:

·         Demonstrated leadership ability.

  • Demonstrated basic skills in Microsoft Office applications.

·         Bilingual skills in English and Hmong/Lao, Spanish, or Somali.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Noise levels are moderate to loud.
  • Travel to various YWCA of Minneapolis sites.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

This job description represents the major functions but is not intended to be all-inclusive.  The incumbent is also responsible for taking directions from the Beacon Center Manager, Beacon Educational Instructor and Beacon Youth Counselors in completing duties deemed necessary for the program’s success.

$15.00 / hour

2:30 - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday
