Description

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for coaching the Otters and Masters swim teams.  Coaches establish a learning environment that is efficient, productive, structured, and safe in order to produce swimmers who enjoy swimming as a lifelong activity and who are getting faster throughout each season.  They perform their duties under the supervision of the Head Coach.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan daily practices to incorporate seasonal goals and microcycle themes established by the Head Coach.
  • Adapt workouts for each lane, to challenge the swimmers appropriately and guide them towards seasonal goals.
  • Motivate swimmers to complete workouts with enthusiasm and awareness of the connection of practice performance and competitive results.
  • Prepare progress cards for each child participant for the last day in order to give accurate feedback and appropriate level recommendation for continuation.
  • Maintain the technical, content, and safety standards established by the Head Coach in swimmer interaction and group presentations.
  • Give participants accurate, positive, corrective feedback so they can improve their skills.
  • Communicate regularly with head coach regarding swimmer progress, meet and team information and workout composition.
  • Maintain an updated schedule to guarantee that the swimmers coach will see their respective coaches assisting at meets.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Head Coach, who reports to the Aquatics Director.  Critical relationships will include participants and their accompanying parents, fellow  Aquatics staff (lifeguards, coaches, and aquatic coordinators).

 

Salary $16.50 +

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Ability to demonstrate and describe all brand standard skills on demand.
  • Must achieve USA Swimming Level 1 Coaching certification to learn and understand basic rules and regulations
  • Must have excellent customer service skills to respond to swimmer/parent concerns.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills to plan practices and record progress each session.

 

Preferred:

  • High school diploma/General Education Degree.
  • One year experience coaching a USA Swimming club.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR-Pro, First Aid and either Lifeguard Safety Training for Swim Coaches Certification. 
  • Cultural competency to effectively communicate with and build relationships with participants/parents.

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift/support students as needed.
  • Required to be in the pool for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform required swimming skills to assigned class.  Indoor pool - warm, humid and noisy.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
