The Avionics Integration Analyst SME provides assistance to support data link and voice services, and aviation-related services for AMC assets operating in a worldwide environment.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Data link comprises Air Traffic Control (ATC) Controller to Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Contract (ADS-C) messages, and Air Operations Center Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) messages with integration into AMC C2 and ATC systems.
  • Current voice services comprise High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF), and Inmarsat or Iridium broadcasts and future Beyond Line of Sight (LOS) and LOS capabilities are being explored to and from MAF platforms. Multiple aircraft series, multiple production blocks, multiple aircraft manufacturers, multiple data link equipment vendors, multiple data link service providers, modification of AMC C2 software, and changes in operations each present unique program management issues and must fit into established and desired MAF enterprise system.
  • Supports oversight of ongoing integration of aviation capabilities into current C2 systems and other related aviation services. In overall terms, the program involves programmatic planning, technical, and analytical support.
  • Perform complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.
  • Perform systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Participate in the upgrading of operating systems and design of systems enhancements.
  • Analyze message traffic, services, and history and prepare documents to forecast requirements.
  • Ensure communications traffic and services are compatible with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and other regulations, policies and procedures governing the use of data link and voice communications in military and civilian aviation environments as well as air transportation directives, regulations, policies, procedures to plan and manage air transportation systems and/or services, and related flight operations guidance.
  • Conduct research and analysis to provide expert advice to government on development and integration of new and enhanced C2 ground and aircraft communications and requirements for airborne network integration.
  • Act as government technical liaison to commercial service vendors, aircraft program management offices, avionics integrators, air traffic services agencies, Air and Space Operations Centers, and others as needed.
  • Provide input for documentation on new or existing systems.
  • Develop and conduct tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system problems.
  • Provide system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
  • Determine system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Evaluate a variety of hardware/software Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government off-the-shelf (GOTS) products on existing and new servers and associated interfaces.
  • Evaluate and reports on new COTS technologies to enhance capabilities of supported systems.
  • Evaluate interface performance and capacities to identify problem areas or bottlenecks.
  • Recommend and implements solutions, software packages and tools to improve interface and/or network performance and reliability.
  • Collect, store, analyze, and process information required to support policy, program guidance, and objectives for data link and voice services, and for the integration of aviation-related services.
  • Collect and store pertinent information using Enterprise Information Management (EIM) and conduct trend analyses to support planning, Program Objective Memorandum (POM) process, and policy decisions.
  • Assist in the preparation of program strategic plans, C2 architectures, and roadmaps for airborne communications and information.
  • Monitor aircraft modification proposals/schedules for impact on data link and voice communications.
  • Accomplish administrative requirements to activate new data link and voice capable aircraft and coordinate with system administrators for updates/support.
  • Prepare and edit narrative justification for projected needs and ensure requests are accurately documented in a variety of forms, schedules, and reports.
  • Develop and maintain database structure, queries, and reports to support analysis of the data link program and perform analysis to support data link and voice services.
  • Monitor/analyze data link/voice system performance.
  • Conduct reconciliation actions for data link and voice services usage to ensure all operations have been accurately captured.
  • Provide analysis on data link and voice services usage trending and make recommendations to optimize the individual data link messages and overall program.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
