Description

Summary

Supervises and coordinates workers' activities in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery, equipment, heavy-duty trucks and trailers, and fabricating metal parts and tools by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and repair
  • Requisitions and keeps a supply of spare parts, working in conjunction with the Parts Manager.
  • Studies repairs needed and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Assigns schedules and monitors overtime.
  • Interprets company policies for workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet repair schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve methods, equipment performance, and quality of repairs.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of shop, department, or work crew- focused on constant improvement.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and maintenance records.
  • Daily review of Driver DVRs- listing of repairs needed. Addresses concerns. Meets with drivers daily.
  • Ensures day-to-day safety of employees and municipal code compliance of buildings and fixtures.
  • Road tests trucks when required.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities- including General Manager and Fleet Supervisor.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises approximately 12-15 employees in the Coeymans Repair Facility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include computer documentation, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Physical Demands

The employee is may be required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate tools. The employee must stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may also be required to lift, push or pull up to 70 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud

Position Requirements

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in the transportation or a related industry
  • Previous experience with Heavy Duty Trucks and Equipment
  • 1+ years of experience leading the work of others
