Job Summary:

The Exam Accommodations Manager is responsible for ensuring that all assessments, examinations, application processes, and trainings offered by NBCC and Affiliates meet the requirements set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the related U.S. Department of Justice regulations, and similar state law requirements.

The Exam Accommodations Manager will be responsible for working with key staff members in all organizational divisions to ensure that the policies, programs, applications, assessments, curricula, and trainings allow individuals with disabilities to have the same opportunities to fairly participate in the programs and services offered by NBCC and Affiliates, consistent with legal requirements. The Exam Accommodations Manager also will be responsible for communicating and consulting with the COO, CEO, CLO, and division Vice Presidents to ensure that test accommodation policies and practices are appropriate. In addition, the Exam Accommodations Manager will review accommodation requests and appeals, and provide recommended resolutions to supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understands and interprets federal and state laws and regulations to develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures, and forms to achieve compliance with disability accommodation requirements.
  • Makes preliminary recommendations and decisions concerning candidate requests for testing accommodations and appeals related to accommodations.
  • Ensures that accommodations are provided consistently and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as applicable regulations.
  • Keeps current on new research and developments in testing accommodations, legal requirements, and operational practices.
  • Maintains proper test accommodation matter files.
  • Ensures that appropriate documentation is received to support accommodation requests and associated decisions.
  • Communicates with candidates, clients, and relevant professionals concerning accommodation matters and issues.
  • Works with organizational departments, contracted vendors, and program partners to coordinate testing program accommodation activities.
  • Communicates effectively, verbally, and in writing.
  • Communicates and relates to others in a professional, helpful, and complete manner.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and monitors multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail.
  • Works independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Effectively identifies and resolves problems and maintains strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Analyzes problems, identifies solutions, and takes appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Communication Ability to listen to others, process information, and communicate effectively in oral and written formats, including knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
  • Problem Solving/Analysis Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to see an issue and use objective analysis and evaluation in order to form a judgment.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork Ability to work cooperatively with other individuals and make valued contributions to the outputs of others in order to assist own team or project to achieve the required outputs.
  • Initiative Independently develops creative solutions that will improve or enhance products and services, avoid problems, or develop entrepreneurial opportunities. Plans for upcoming problems or opportunities and takes appropriate action.
  • Customer Focus Genuinely cares whether the customers are satisfied and truly wants to create the best possible experience for them.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements and disability accommodations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Two (2) years of professional experience preferred

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low.

Work Location:

  • Primarily hybrid with a minimum of 1 day per week in the office.

Travel Requirements:

  • No travel required for this position.

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers such as simple grasping, keyboarding, or fine manipulation.

  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one workspace to another.

  • Reaching above, below, or at waist level.
