Summary

The Quality Manager (QM) Oversees the Quality Control department at the manufacturing location for the daily operations. Interacts with cross-functional team members within the company to facilitate and ensure adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS) and the applicable Customer Requirements.

The QM acts as a liaison with the customer and suppliers to ensure Astronics CSCs QMS integrity.

The QM is a leader within the location and as such supports the company goals and objectives while maintaining a high morale and motivation within the area of responsibility and supports the direct and indirect reports in their development and career growth.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible of the Quality Management System in the Manufacturing location, including but not limited to:
    • Procedures reviews and updates
    • Implementation of tools and documentation that facilitates Quality data reports
    • Quality Reports: FPY, Customer Performance (Scorecards), Supplier Quality Scorecard, Audits (all applicable according to the QMS, etc.), Customer reports, among others.
    • Customer Quality Requirements.
    • Support the definition and implementation of Goals and Objectives for the Quality Team at the location.
    • Supports the recruitment and retention of talent.
  • Represents Astronics CSC Quality internally and externally.
  • Liaison in applicable Customer meetings and interaction with customers: Face to Face, Verbal (calls), Written and Video.
    • Point of contact to resolve questions in the interpretation of Quality requirements for product.
  • Supports Continual Improvement to enhance the ability to exceed customer expectations in Quality, Service and Time by identifying opportunities and executing improvement in quality control processes.
  • Ensure defect-free product is delivered on time by delegating and manage the daily priorities for the Quality team in the manufacturing location.
  • Ensure inspection, and the related control of product, occurs in accordance with the associated procedures and work instructions by managing the quality control team.
  • Review inspection reports to confirm product has been inspected in accordance with the quality system and approve product shipment by signing Certificates of Conformance (CoC), or taking other action as needed.
  • Lead and facilitate the problem solving and root cause analysis efforts and verify effectiveness of corrective actions (FRACA).
  • Support the Material Review Board (MRB) process by driving action and improvement to the defined goals and objectives.
    • Ensure all nonconforming product is prevented from use or shipment by managing the Quarantine Area and other locations for nonconforming product.
  • Oversee the disposition for rejected product and execute those dispositions where appropriate (i.e: Use As Is, Scrap, etc.) in a timely manner that ensures the final product can be delivered to the customer on time and defect-free.
  • Support the Quality Control team as needed such as in preparing and completing first article inspection reports.
  • Recall nonconforming or uninspected product that has inadvertently left the quality system.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or management team.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering area (i.e. Mechanical, Electronics, Industrial), or equivalent work experience.
  • Three-plus years of experience in a supervisory role within Quality Assurance.
  • Problem solving and Root Cause Analysis training/experience.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing/assembly processes.
  • Proven knowledge of Quality core tools: Control Plan, FMEA, SPC, Process Flow, 8D.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office 365, EPICOR, Intuitive, Adobe,
  • Demonstrated progression in supervising and managing teams.

Preferred:

  • Certified Quality Engineer/Manager
  • Certified AS9100 Internal Quality Auditor
  • Sig-sigma certification (Green or Black Belt)
  • Five-plus years in Quality Assurance with an AS9100 certified organization
  • Five-plus years in the aviation/aerospace industry
  • Five-plus years of experience in the manufacturing of electronics
  • FAA Designation Manufacturing Inspection Representative (DMIR)
