Share Email Opening Title Patient Account Billing Representative  Category Billing/Coding   Description POSITION LOCATION: FORT WAYNE AREA POSITION SUMMARY: With direction from the Cash Applications and Data Manager, prepare and submit monthly patient statements, post incoming responsible payments to accounts, review account responsible credit balances, prepare accounts for refunds, maintain accurate account balances and manage accounts ready for collection to the credit bureau. REPORTS TO: Cash Applications and Data Manager ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate and uphold the mission statement and values of Midwest Eye Consultants. Responsible for posting payments and adjusting accounts per company billing guidelines, including small balances, bad debt and bankruptcies. Review accounts submitted for possible assignment and makes recommendation to the Cash Applications and Data Manager, and prepares information for the collection agency. Responsible for verifying credit balances and processing refunds to patients/account responsible. Prepare, review and send patient statements. Maintain accurate patient account balances and clean ledgers. Perform any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices. Knowledge of business office procedures. Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices. Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment. Skilled in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Must be well organized and detail-oriented.   Position Requirements EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one (1) year experience in patient services and or Medicare/Medical billing.
