Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board is looking for a Child Mental Health Case Manager to join our team! As a member of the highly collaborative Community-Based Services team, the Child Mental Health Case Manager will play a vital role in providing and connecting children and their families to support services.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Provide intensive case management services to SED & at-risk children, and adolescents.
  • Collaborate with the children, adolescents, and their families, to facilitate adjustment at home, in school, and in the community.
  • Help children, adolescents and their families navigate crisis stabilization and emergency intervention services as needed.
  • Develop and complete Individual Service Plan (ISP) reviews on caseload in accordance with agency standards and Medicaid criteria.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning with the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA).
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic human needs.
  • Child and adolescent development
  • Community resources.
  • Interviewing techniques.
  • Appropriate professional behavior.
  • Basic psychopathology.
  • Basic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Effective intervention strategies for clients with serious mental illness.

Skills pertaining to:

  • Identifying and documenting an individual's need for resources, services, and other supports.
  • Using information from assessments, evaluations, observations, and interviews to develop individual service plans (ISPs).
  • Identifying services and resources within the community and establishing service systems to meet the individual's needs, and documenting how such services/supports can be utilized to acheive an individual's goals.
  • Coordinating the provision of services by public and private providers.
  • Outreach services.
  • Family education for emotionally distrubed children, adolescents, and their families.

Ability to:

  • Advocate for clients.
  • Intervene in a crisis.
  • Work effectively with adults with a wide range of mental disorders and co-occurring challenges.
  • Organize and work effectively.
  • Communicate clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgment and maintain healthy boundaries.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside VCSB.
  • Maintain high professional ethical standards and appropriate confidentiality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
  • At least one year of experience working with children or adolescents in a clinical mental health setting.
  • Must pass required pre-employment screenings, including, but not limited to, criminal history and experience verification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with intensive care management services for SED at-risk children and adolescents.
  • Experience with crisis interventions and linking to emergency services
  • Demonstrated familiarity in using information from assessments, evaluations, observation, and interviews to develop ISP’s.
  • An understanding of treatment modalities and intervention techniques such as behavior management, independent living skills training, supportive counseling, family education, crisis intervention, discharge planning and service coordination.

Salary Information Up to $51,301 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
