Job Summary

The Sober Transitional House-Peer Recovery Mentor will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

This is a grant funded position with duration through September 2023.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide PRM supports in Sober Transitional Housing.
  2. Advocates within systems to promote person-centered recovery/wellness support services. Differentiates between the types and levels of advocacy and responds appropriately. Advocates for multiple pathways to recovery/wellness.
  3. Identifies risk indicators that may affect the individual's welfare and safety and applies appropriate responses. May include communication with support networks and evaluating individual's satisfaction with progress, among other things.
  4. Reports suspicions of abuse or neglect to appropriate authorities (mandatory reporting requirements).
  5. Transporting STH clients to appointments, meetings, shopping and other recovery activities.
  6. Maintains documentation and collects and reports data as required.
  7. Maintains current, accurate knowledge of trends and issues related to wellness and recovery.
  8. Uses organizational/departmental chain of command to address or resolve issues.
  9. Serves as a role model for an individual and establishes a peer relationship rather than a hierarchical relationship. Demonstrate consistency by supporting individuals during ordinary and extraordinary times.
  10. Assists the individual in identifying and establishing positive relationships and a network of personal and educational resources.
  11. Supports the development of effective communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  12. Provides resource linkage to community supports and professional services.
  13. Assists the individual with setting goals.
  14. Apply effective coaching techniques such as Motivational Interviewing.
  15. Develop tools for effective outreach and continued support.
  16. Adhere to responsibilities and limits of the role.
  17. Learn and recognize and adhere to the rules of confidentiality.
  18. Will apply fundamentals of cultural competency.
  19. Recognize and maintain professional and personal boundaries.
  20. Recognize and address personal and institutional biases and behaviors.
  21. Establish a respectful, trusting relationship with the individual.
  22. May require travel for trainings and meetings.
  23. Work a rotating shift; Monday-Sunday; day, evening, and night shifts.
  24. Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years in recovery from a substance use disorder with a strong recovery program and system of natural supports.
  3. Certification as a Peer Delivered Service provider (Certified Recovery Mentor/CRM) preferred/ or the ability to attain certification within 3 months of hire.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of and sensitivity to alcohol and other drug use and the recovery process.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of a trauma-informed system of care.
  6. Demonstrated experience with computers, software and office equipment, i.e., Microsoft office, printers, scanners, etc.
  7. Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
  8. Demonstrated Knowledge of history, culture and health needs of American Indian/Alaska Native communities.
  9. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
  10. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
  11. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and intermittent drug/alcohol testing.
  12. Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  13. Must have the ability to work a rotating schedule that includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. STH staff must work 5 shifts/week for full time status.
    1. Examples of Shifts: Day Shift 8:00 am-4:00 PM; Afternoon Shift 4:00 PM-12:00 AM; Night Shift 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Certification as a Peer Delivered Service provider.
  2. Ability to communicate across disciplines (Behavioral Health, Medical, Alcohol & Drug, etc.)
