Description

Geneva College invites applications for an immediate opening for a tenure-track appointment as a faculty member in the Master of Arts in Counseling program. Candidates that have an interest in and are capable of assuming responsibilities as Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Coordinator are encouraged to apply. This position is designed as a 9-month position and will begin August 2023. Minority and female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. The College will consider candidates that possess a doctorate degree in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP-approved program. Eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure as a professional counselor (LPC), as well as experience in the mental health field, are required. JOB SUMMARY:

The candidate will teach courses in the Master of Arts in Counseling Program; possess a record of successful leadership, and teaching; demonstrate an understanding of the integration of faith and learning; serve as a clinical mental health counseling program coordinator and be committed to function as an integrated team member and leader of the department.

Placing a high value on student-faculty interaction, the Counseling program expects the selected candidate to be engaged beyond the classroom. This would include participating in recruiting events and providing academic advising for students in the program. Faculty members are also required to serve on committees of the faculty, when elected or appointed.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (These primary responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

General Responsibilities:

  1. For a 9-month position, teach 18 contact hours per year (typically 3 fall, and 3 spring) with a combination of on ground and online course assignments. Summer course instruction is available for supplemental pay.
  2. Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course)
  3. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelines
  4. Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
  5. Suitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
  6. Support the department by providing leadership for activities that promote student engagement and academic excellence.
  7. Complete grade books, final grade sheets, learning assessments and final exam assessments on a timely basis
  8. Respond to student questions on a timely basis
  9. Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the specialty curriculum involving the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in accordance with most recent Council for the Accreditation of Counseling Related Programs (CACREP).
  2. Participate in recruiting activities.
  3. Advise students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
  4. Develop and maintain field placement sites for practicum and internships for Clinical Mental Health Counseling track students.
  5. Review degree candidacy applications

  2. Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, fax machines, copy machines, modems, and telephones.

  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and leadership experience in higher education, have completed their doctorate by the time of hiring, and have expertise in the clinical mental health counseling area(s).
    2. Education/Certification: An earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. Candidates who are ABD but with professional experience may be considered.
      1. Eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) is required.
    3. Experience:
      1. Experience in the mental health field
      2. Classroom teaching experience is beneficial.
    4. Skill/Abilities:
      1. An aptitude for teaching and supervision, and a demonstrated record of research and involvement in the counseling profession is expected.
      2. Creativity in teaching and program development is desirable.
    5. Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The educational setting involves teaching at the graduate level and in both online and classroom courses. The Master of Arts in Counseling exists as a stand-alone program.
