Position Summary

The Packaging Process Engineer assists the Production Supervisors, Quality Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Maintenance Technicians with a variety of analytical, engineering, and maintenance with packaging process systems to ensure the Company is receiving the greatest return on investment in safety, quality, delivery and cost. Services and monitors manufacturing process systems that include, but not limited to: de-palletizers, fillers, pasteurizers, sleeving, cartoning, and palletizing to ensure proper operation. Responsible for the monitoring of the Machine Maintenance Work Order System in relation to these processes. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Position will report into the Director of Engineering and Maintenance.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Maintenance and monitoring of all packaging related processing equipment.

Collection, analysis and reporting of data for the packaging process operations including but not limited to standard rates, OEE, maintenance logs, process performance, etc.

Report out and analyze operational trends, including throughput, scrap, quality, yield, and material consumption rates to identify cost saving opportunities and/or building system optimization for the benefit of the company

Provide support to machine maintenance technicians and manufacturing leaders to ensure packaging process equipment is operated efficiently and effectively to optimize production time and minimize breakdowns and repairs.

Responsible to project manage new asset installations, including managing internal and external resources to deliver projects on time and in budget.

Assist with Capital Needs Assessments, including maintenance plans, inspections, funding schedules, and process /equipment design review.

Participate in Lean activities and reporting as it relates to packaging processes.

Identify automation process improvements to reduce cost, improve process controls, and increase throughput.

Participate on the Food Safety and HACCP Team and other Quality/Regulatory activities as it relates to maintenance activity

Develop SOPs and training materials for current and new equipment, including the dissemination of documents and implementation to operators.

Monitor the Machine Maintenance Work Order database and work with the Maintenance Manager to identify opportunities for improvement in maintenance/repair/operation of packaging process equipment.

Organizes project meetings and works with the management and staff in all departments to coordinate schedules and resources necessary for the timely completion of machine maintenance related projects.

Implement Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing processes to analyze performance data, establish KPIs, eliminate waste, and drive overall quality improvements.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Key Competencies:

Bachelor of Science degree required in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Chemical Engineering, Food Science, etc.)

Master's degree in Chemical, Food Science or related field (Industrial, Mechanical) preferred

Minimum 7+ years' experience in Engineering within Manufacturing/Operations in a Lean manufacturing environment

Minimum of 5+ years' experience in Food & Beverage industry preferred

Expertise in the area of canning or bottling process equipment

Project management experience

Root-cause analysis

Advanced ability to both read and generate P&IDs and As-Builts

Advanced understanding of pipe designs and pump curves

Lean Six Sigma or other advanced lean certification required

Proficient with MS Project and/or another project planning, scheduling and tracking tool

Must be a problems solver and results-oriented with a high sense of urgency

Experience working with cross functional teams through project completion

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Microsoft Office skill required; AutoCAD preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $79,724.00 - $100,000.00 per year

Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be able to do simple mathematics
  • Must be well versed in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Teams and have the aptitude to learn SAP and other software programs
  • Must be highly organized
  • Must have great attention to detail, essential problem-solving methods and initiative
  • Must have the ability to learn and apply policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Must have the ability to perform assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner with minimal supervision
  • Must have the ability to receive, understand and proactively respond to direction from supervisors/managers and other members of leadership
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
  • Must be able to read, recognize and speak the English language
  • Must be able to work overtime when needed
  • Previous experience working in a food and beverage manufacturing facility with knowledge of GMPs, HAACP and Food Safety preferred
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as auditing, Root Cause Problem Solving, pareto charts, customer service, corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), etc. preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 10 hours, and be able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to control equipment for forms of communication by grasping, reaching, and using finger dexterity
  • Utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to lift up to 50 pounds depending on job task
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to operate carts, dollies, and hand trucks of up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, and work on a secure mezzanine or ladder at a height of up to 25 feet
  • Must be able to work in cool conditions in the winter and warm conditions in the summer
