The Collections Team at Clackamas is a fast-paced, energized group of highly skilled folks who partner with our members to help them find debt repayment plans and services that align with the Member’s financial outlook and situation.

 

Our Bankruptcy and Recovery Specialist is an integral individual contributor that has passion around connecting and problem-solving with our members while simultaneously protecting the integrity and interest in all Credit Union loans.

 

Our Bankruptcy and Recovery Specialist plays a critical role in our collections cycle by educating, assisting, and collaborating with our members, attorneys, and trustees to utilize a variety of asset recovery solutions including charge-off, repossession, foreclosure, garnishment, etc.

 

Here is a snapshot of what our Bankruptcy and Recovery Specialist’s day-to-day looks like:

  • Responsible for performing all duties associated with bankruptcy, recovery, collections, repossessions, foreclosures, liquidation of collateral, documentation, record keeping, correspondence, and skip tracing.
  • Proactively pursue bankruptcy and recovery actions with members via direct phone calls, collection letters, and in-person interviews to recommend action on past-due accounts to secure a satisfactory resolution.
  • Maintains system for follow up of bankrupt loans; maintains statistical data and accurately documents activities on the loan files within the system.
  • Applies bankruptcy laws, policies, and procedures in resolving loans to bankruptcy staff, attorneys, trustees and members.
  • Negotiates with members/debtors on post charge off debt.
  • Analyzes accounts and determines the most effective method of maximizing financial recovery.
  • Reviews and recommends courses of action on potential and non-charge –off issues, fraud activity and relief’s of stay on bankrupt loans.
  • Oversees and monitors the preparation of claims, proposals and bankrupt plans on all loans involving bankrupt parties.
  • Monitors accounts from service of the member through the garnishment/levy/lien process and makes recommendations and/or takes appropriate actions for continued recovery.
  • Coordinates repossession efforts after appropriate relief documents are obtained.
  • Negotiates directly with attorneys, trustees and bankrupt members in order to resolve bankrupt loans; ensures the Credit Union’s interest is addressed in bankruptcy plans of reorganization.
  • Prepares documentation for small claims and general litigation.
  • Tracks court hearing dates, motions requiring objections or attendance, objections to claims, and deadlines for objections to discharge; arranges for Credit Union to be represented by outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Tracks all awarded judgment and modifies tracking spreadsheets and collection system notes and work cards accordingly.
  • Ensures that dismissals and satisfaction of judgments are filed with the courts when required.

  • Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge about technology with the ability to quickly learn and access products through banking core systems.
 
Position Requirements

  • Committed to integrity by remaining updated on all knowledge of current and changing policies and procedures, rules, regulations, and laws governing loan transactions, insolvency and bankruptcy in order to establish appropriate collection action and compliance; including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
  • Interested in learning additional tasks through training and/or knowledge base for career advancement.
  • Daily operation of basic computer operating systems, word processing tools, email platforms, internet functionality, and Credit Union core systems.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all non-public data and uphold the financial integrity of the Credit Union.
  • Establish and maintain productive and effective working relationships with the Clackamas team.

What does it take to qualify?

  • Two (2) years of direct experience with bankrupcy, recovery, small claims and litigations, and/or related duties (as outlined in the essential functions), including time spent in similar or preparatory positions
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

 

 

What kind of Work Schedule?

  • Full-time
  • This position has some availability for hybrid on-site and remote options in the Portland Metro Area after the individual has demonstrated sufficient ability to consistently meet the essential functions of the role.
