Summary

The Mentor Coach provides quality improvement support coaching and mentoring to the teaching staff and contracted partners/Home Child Care Network (HCCN) providers to ensure a high-quality early education learning environment to children to provide the direction needed to successfully implement the selected curricula and teaching practices which support school readiness and improved child outcomes. The purpose of the Mentor Coach is to support and expand early educator’s knowledge on early education childhood best practices through individualized mentoring, training, and technical assistance.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Staff Development and Support (80%)

  • Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with childcare staff and contracted partners for the purpose of supporting staff growth through the mentoring/coaching process.
  • In collaboration with the manager and other staff, assist in the development and evaluation of the program goals and objectives and progress towards those.
  • Work with others to develop a schedule for conducting observations of the early learning environment, teaching practices, adult/child interactions, etc. as a foundation for determining needs.
  • Develop and deliver trainings on subject matter related to early childhood education best practices.
  • Develop individual mentor coaching plans with specific goals and areas for growth.
  • Coach and support teaching staff on meeting their professional development goals.
  • Follow-up on individual child development requests for mentor coach services and document nature of training provided.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to teaching staff for learning and growth.
  • Plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes.
  • Analyze, coach, and assist new and existing teachers/partner staff with teaching strategies, lesson planning, classroom management for infants and toddlers.
  • Complete coaching logs and submit them according to timelines.
  • Monitor and support data collection activities.
  • Participate in case management team meetings.
  • Conduct assessments, as needed.

Other (20%)

  • Attend meetings, trainings, professional development, etc. as needed or requested.
  • Serve as backup for the child development specialist staff.
  • Assist in special projects as related to Early Head Start.

Qualifications:

Must be able to obtain a background clearance, physical examination clearance, TB test clearance, and be vaccinated against COVID-19.  Reasonable accommodations may be approved as required by law.  Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with additional infant/toddler training. A minimum of one-year experience working with adult learners.
