Job Summary

The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the organization alongside the CFO. This position is responsible for accurate and timely recording of all transactions and production of financial reports, ensure all processes are in accordance with recent accounting pronouncements, and develop relationships with other departments to support their financial activities. This position is also responsible for working with the CFO on the annual budget and quarterly forecasts and communicating major variances to management. The Controller also oversees the payroll department by supporting the Payroll Administrator as necessary, coordinating with the Human Resources department, and ensuring processes and controls are in place.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  1. Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring accuracy and compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and internal policies and procedures.
  2. Coordinate the preparation and production of monthly financial statements on a timely basis.
  3. Identify variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  4. Coordinate the preparation and production of the annual budget and forecasts.
  5. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  6. Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures that provide internal control safeguards and optimize efficiency.
  7. Coordinate the preparation and production of the annual capital budget and coordinate with project leaders on timing of projects and progress updates.
  8. In conjunction with the CFO, establish financial benchmarks and reporting standards on an annual basis.
  9. Coordinate monthly financial meetings with the departments to discuss any variances from budget and updated forecasts.
  10. Consolidate all entities within PBP and prepare any eliminating entries on a quarterly basis.
  11. Understand and implement future changes in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  12. Coordinate the preparation of all reports requested by Major League baseball, including the annual FIQ audit.
  13. Oversee payroll department and assist with controls and tax compliance.
  14. Oversee and support other members of the accounting and payroll department with dynamic leadership that creates and environment of trust and productivity.
  15. All other duties as assigned by the CFO.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  2. Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years accounting experience
  3. Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Desired:

  1. Experience with sports accounting
  2. CPA
