Position Summary

This position is a 2/5FTE, second semester position teaching World History and Psychology.

Responsibilities and Duties

Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian educator;

  • Support SHCs mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;
  • In collaboration with Social Studies department colleagues and per department outcomes (see https://www.shcp.edu/academics/category/social-studies),
  • Facilitate students critical thinking and historical literacy skills through historical and social inquiry and research;
  • Develop students analytical abilities through document analysis, evidence-based writing, projects, simulations, and discussion;
  • Prepare future citizens to be curious about the world, to contribute to the common good, and to appreciate and respect diverse cultures and eras;
  • Help students to begin to understand global economics, international relations, the relationships between the environment and human cultures, and historical trends;
  • Plan what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed within a backwards design framework that features common assignments and assessments;
  • Engage students in an active, culturally responsive, and effective learning environment, in physical and digital spaces, ensuring that all students develop both skills and confidence in their ability to learn;
  • Collaborate with peers to develop, review, and improve curriculum;
  • Provide regular and varied, formative and summative assessments of student learning to provide feedback for learning and to compile accurate grades;
  • Communicate consistently and in a timely manner with students, parents, and school personnel;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional learning, integrating best practices in pedagogy, social emotional learning, cultural responsiveness and educational technology;
  • Work with the Director of Studies, the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to support students who have learning differences;
  • Keep current and complete grading and attendance records;
  • Supervise students outside of the classroom as assigned by the Deans Office;
  • Actively support the co-curricular programs of the school community.
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in History, Social Studies, or related subject;

  • Teaching credential or work toward credential; single-subject teaching credential in History or Social Science preferred.

  • Demonstrated collaboration, communication and organizational abilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in History, Social Studies, or related subject;

  • Experience in a Catholic high school setting;

  • Experience working with high school students in a college preparatory school;

Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
