About the Center for Policing Equity:

The Center for Policing Equity uses evidence-based approaches to social justice problems and conducts research to create levers for social, cultural, and policy change.

Position Description:

The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a Manager to plan and guide the execution of strategic campaigns. The Manager will support the development of CPE's advocacy infrastructure, strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders and prioritize directly impacted communities and individuals, tracking progress on campaign goals.

Candidates should have at least 6 years of demonstrated experience working in the advocacy, organizing, policy or government affairs space, with specific experience hiring, growing, and supporting a team. The Manager will have a unique opportunity to pioneer campaign work at CPE for the first time, collaborating closely with the Community Engagement, Policy, Communications and Public Health Teams, in addition to the Project Management Office (PMO). Folded into this position will be the opportunity to oversee the day-to-day operations and functions of partnership management, in addition to the ability to propose and hire direct reports as needed to accomplish the strategic vision. The Manager will serve as a senior member of a growing vertical that is committed to racial equity - and specifically in uplifting Black and Brown communities - and to cultivating fruitful and long-term relationships with communities around the country in support of public safety. The Manager will also work to expand existing partnerships, secure new opportunities for partnerships, and serve as a primary decision maker relating to new campaign opportunities. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Policy & Community Engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop key partnerships and manage engagement by integrating legislative, organizing, communications, development and legal strategies in collaboration with other staff and community partners.

  • Build, maintain and follow a Campaign Plan for the organization that prioritizes directly impacted communities and individuals, while developing CPE's advocacy infrastructure.

  • Work closely with CPE leadership and staff on communications strategies for campaigns, leveraging traditional and new media to achieve policy goals.

  • Coordinate with the VP for Policy & Community Engagement, administration and other teams to ensure that community-based campaigns support the organization's full mission.

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the partnerships team, working closely with the existing personnel resources within the Policy & Community Engagement vertical.

  • Expand and develop team capacity, identifying staffing needs, and recommending new roles as needed.

  • Work with the Vice President to develop a budget and needs assessments as needed

  • Develop protocols for research, outreach, project staffing in collaboration with the Program Management Office (PMO).

  • Provide high-level guidance in identifying partnership opportunities and working closely with the Director of Community Engagement to ensure organizational priorities are met.

  • Support research to inform the development of policy agendas and benchmarks to ensure effective progress towards product goals.

  • Respectfully, honestly, and diplomatically communicate campaign perspectives, concerns and objectives internally within CPE and externally to partners, as needed.

  • Leverage internal CPE tools to document and provide internal transparency to partnerships work via Cityscape, Asana, Salesforce and externally via qualitative data collection tools.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in government, campaigns, organizing, policy or relevant social justice spaces with a strong commitment to economic, gender, social and racial justice issues.

  • 3+ years of people management experience, team building experience is preferred.

  • Significant experience developing, coordinating and managing successful issue advocacy, legislative, or political campaigns.

  • Experience motivating volunteers within large and diverse coalitions and engaging decisionmakers.

  • Experience using policy analysis, all forms of communications, and mobilization/organizing tactics to influence a policy agenda.

  • Effective cross functional leader and consensus builder.

  • Excellent aptitude for developing and presenting big visions, meticulous plans, and actionable learning.

  • Up-to-date on cultural and community trends.

  • Knowledge of criminal justice reform advocacy and messaging, or an ability to quickly become conversant with the latest research, messaging, and tactics used to educate the public and move policymakers.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage details and follow-through.

  • Issue driven and results oriented.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours.

  • Advance communication skills - including an ability to present to and communicate with internal CPE stakeholders and senior leadership, as well as across diverse communities, government and law enforcement agencies.

  • High level of emotional intelligence and attention to detail.

  • Passionate commitment to economic, environmental, gender, social and racial justice issues.
