Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and support company values.
  • Use a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Operate a forklift or crane when necessary.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and solving assembly or parts issues.
  • Layout hole locations and drill and tap holes on parts for assembly.
  • Work effectively as a team member to contribute to a positive workplace.
  • Set up, fit, bolt, and dowel in place large parts such as frames, brackets, etc.
  • Disassemble and inspect machine after testing to prepare for shipment to customer.
  • Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement culture, including Lean initiatives.
  • Communicate concerns to supervisor timely. Participate in solution implementation as appropriate.
  • Position parts and components such as motors, gearboxes, drive trains in and on machine frame.
  • Use various measuring and precision inspection tools to verify conformance of parts to blueprints.
  • With moderate guidance, prepare work by reviewing instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists. Gather parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Construct, build or rebuild custom equipment by fitting and assembling components according to blueprints, manuals, engineering memos, sketches, and knowledge of machine construction.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic math and the application to tolerances.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and other manufacturing instructions.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) to ensure part quality meets customer requirements
  • Must have experience with a portable power tool and machine tools such as drill press, bandsaw, cut-off saw, and grinder.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Knowledge of part materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses. Might be required to utilize drills, torque wrenches, fixtures, gauges, air-actuated devices, and other standard assembly tools

Education and/or Experience

High school graduate or equivalent education plus 1-3 years of relevant manufacturing experience. Completion or participation in a state apprenticeship program is preferred, but not required. Requires average knowledge of sound assembly techniques, and skills in pneumatics, hydraulics, and actuation.

Work Environment

The employee works in a factory environment and is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. He/she is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
