Description

DeLong’s, Inc. is a steel fabricator that produces steel bridges and miscellaneous bridge components for the transportation industry and structural steel for the building industry. The company, founded in 1944, has approximately 190 employees at its locations in Jefferson City and Sedalia, Missouri. Location: Sedalia Facility

 

Standard Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Duties and Responsibilities: Once trained and/or certified, the individual filling this position could be asked to perform the following tasks:

  • Maintain positive communication and work with Plant Manager, supervisors, and team members daily to achieve the production goals through clarity and alignment of expectations.
  • Ensure proper documenting of production progress on production sheets, including stiffener fitting, laydowns, and x-frames.
  • Participate in and ensure in-process inspection of product for quality requirements.
  • Forecast material needs based on job schedules to ensure all material is on-site or enroute prior to fabrication.
  • Coordinate with the management team in Jefferson City regarding schedule changes and transfer of material.
  • Arrange advance distribution of necessary materials to production teams, ensuring no interruptions or delays.
  • Inventory, track, and order necessary items such as welding consumables, PPE, and other necessary items.
  • Proactively identify critical paths for upcoming jobs and coordinate problem-solving efforts with Production Operations leadership to ensure due dates are met.
  • Work with the Production Operations and training teams to formulate standard training curriculum.
  • Lead in-house training, focusing on certifications and necessary skill levels to ensure compliance with internal quality manuals, adherence to D1.5 Bridge Code, and cross-training of team members.
  • Identify incidents of necessary additional training and coordinate execution with Production Operations Team.
  • Prioritize identifying skills and attributes of promising team members in order to assist them in growing their career.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Production Operations and other leadership teams.
  • Direct the shift overlap between 1st and 2nd Shift, ensuring a smooth transition, transfer of necessary information, and continuous production across shifts whenever possible.
  • Assist Human Resources and Environmental Health and Safety departments with coordination of documentation for the Sedalia facility.

 

 
Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong organizational, verbal, interpersonal, and time-management skills are required.
  • Proactive approaches to learning, problem-solving, and process improvements are required.
  • Ability to perform the essential minimum physical functions of production positions, with or without reasonable accommodation, is required.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • A minimum of an associate degree in Production or Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or related field is preferred; applicable work experience may be substituted.

Important Skills: The following skills are necessary for long-term success in this position, but can be learned through on-the-job training for the motivated candidate:

  • In-depth understanding of all production processes performed at the facility, including Bridge Welding Code D1.5 and internal welding and quality control procedures.
  • Proficiency with internal software platforms and processes for inventory, production tracking, and scheduling, including Tekla and preventive maintenance system.
  • Ability to train, engage, and motivate team members to achieve individual and organizational goals.
