GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to join the mission and ministry of the Faith INFO Ministry Team of Justice and Local Church Ministries to the mission mandates of the Church, and to foster collaboration between Faith INFO and other settings of the Church. The Team Lead will foster and support clear articulation of the integration of Spirit, Scripture and Justice within a congregation’s life of discipleship.

CONTEXT FOR MINISTRY:

The Faith Education, Innovation, and Formation Team (Faith INFO) exist to:

Gather people and communities to each other, and to educational resources and entities so as to engage difference and learn from one another; Resource and equip local communities to teach and preach for all ages; we create materials where needed, and curate materials from the wider church and culture for use in UCC settings; Help communities assess, plan, and live into who God is calling them to be at this present time and future becoming; Encourage and amplify expansive expressions of Gospel inside and outside of the institution; Articulate our faith’s wider context pointing towards trends of Christian expression so as to help congregations experience themselves as part of a covenantal whole; Faith INFO, along with MESA, also resources and supports Committees on Ministry and Conference staff regarding continuing covenant and support from a Congregational perspective.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement the programmatic mandates of the Faith INFO Ministry Team providing vision and leadership in adapting programs and resources for both the existing and the emerging church.
  • Sustain a general relationship to the whole of Justice and Local Church Ministries, and be concerned, together with the Associate General Minister and colleagues for the wisdom and effectiveness of its purposes, policies and programs.
  • Oversee the development and effective functioning of the Faith INFO Ministry Team in such ways that the Team is collegial and productive within the program policy.
  • Coordinate the work of the Faith INFO Team with the other Ministry Teams and the Teams of the other Covenanted Ministries.
  • Interpret the work and mission of the Faith INFO Team and the other Covenanted Ministries in the local churches, conferences, associations and ecumenical settings when appropriate.
  • Oversee the day-to-day personnel administration of the Faith INFO Ministry Team.
  • Conduct annual staff evaluations in accordance with the Common Personnel Policies.
  • Develop an annual budget for the Faith INFO Ministry Team, monitoring it regularly and taking appropriate action when needed.
  • Report regularly the activities of the Faith INFO Ministry Team to the Associate General Minister.
  • Attend meetings of the UCC Ministry Advisory Council as a member.
  • Participate as a member of the Justice and Local Church Ministries Leadership Team.
  • Support the Formula of Agreement and other ecumenical partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate General Minister.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • A graduate degree in Christian Education or a related field, or a combination of academic study and experience.
  • Proven commitment to innovative approaches in faith formation ministries and their successful implementation in local churches.
  • Demonstrated competency in management and supervision, planning and goal-setting, budgeting, and staff development and training.
  • Proven experience in effectively working and communicating with those who work and volunteer in faith formation ministries in local churches and conference settings.
  • Familiarity with UCC/ecumenical/interfaith resources, publications and curricula and an ability to envision and communicate new models of resourcing faith formation.
  • Excellent technology, and communication skills, and an understanding/articulation of both traditional and emerging approaches to faith formation in local churches.
  • Excellent writing, liturgical, interpretive, and preaching skills.
  • Significant leadership experience and involvement in local churches, especially in faith formation ministries.
  • Collaborative style and approach to ministry.
  • A person of faith with grounding in the United Church of Christ and its core values.
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills, including ability to conceptualize and participate in development of print resources.
  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one’s faith perspective.
  • Desire and sensitivity to working in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently and confidentially.
  • Ability to travel within the United States. 

 

OTHER:

This position will not require relocation to Cleveland; however, there is a requirement to spend a minimum of one designated week per quarter in Cleveland in 2023.
