Description

The Maintenance Support Worker assists the site superintendent with general maintenance and repair for the building and grounds, and works on related special projects.

General Responsibilities

  • General Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Inspects all general building areas and grounds, including elevator telephone, and other building equipment, water systems, interior and exterior light bulbs, and other problems which may be noted, using a checklist.
    • Submits list of malfunctions and required repairs to the Site Superintendent.
    • Sweeps the grounds, including around all exits and walkways, daily.
    • Provides extra garbage pickup in building to supplement cleaners contract as required.
    • Performs maintenance, repairs, and set up of some building areas and furniture, e.g., painting, assembling furniture, putting up shelving, replacing light fixtures, etc.
    • Follows established schedules for routine maintenance and care of the property, as directed by the Site Superintendent (SS) or Director of Corporate Services (DCS).
    • Keeps tools and equipment in good repair, including personal protective equipment.
    • Maintains landscaped areas as needed, including removing debris, mowing, pruning, weeding, weekly trimming and grass maintenance, seeding of grass, and other related grounds-keeping duties.
    • Clears snow, ice and debris from entrance, exits, walkways, salting/sanding when necessary.
  • Building Cleanliness, Safety, and Security:
    • Cleans puddles, spills, or accidents, and replenishes supplies in washrooms, kitchens, and other areas as necessary.
    • Inspects cleanliness of building using a cleaning checklist on a daily basis.
    • Initiates and responds to crisis response procedures when necessary.
    • In the absence of the Site Superintendent, checks alarm and emergency systems.
    • In the absence of the Site Superintendent, opens/closes the building, turns on/off lights, deactivates alarms, conducts inspections for intruders or stragglers.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate is required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.

 
Position Requirements

Education

  • Completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Professional Experience

  • Experience in a non-profit, community-based organization
  • Experience with and and interest in working in a diverse, multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • Ability to move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in general office procedures and practices.
  • High level of organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, to be flexible and adapt to changing situations, and to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications, including Microsoft Office programs, including database programs.

  • A third language relevant to our client population is an asset.

Salary Range $17.15/hr - $20.25/hr
