Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board is looking for compassionate and dedicated people to join our Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) Team as a Direct Care Professional! Team members work together to foster independence and community engagement for individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential home. Full-time, part-time, and PRN positions are available for all shifts.

    • Starting pay at $15.00/hour with medication administration certification.

    • Shift differentials for 2nd, 3rd, and weekend-only shifts.

    • Nine paid holidays, with double pay provided for holiday shifts.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Provides direct, daily support to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in both residential and community settings.
  • Monitors clients’ progress toward their personal goals, giving assistance as needed.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of and assists with the implements person-centered plans.
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure client needs are understood and served.
  • Assists with household tasks as needed, such as food preparation and cleaning.
  • Works with teammates to ensure a safe, healthy environment within the home.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Nature and impact of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral training programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Key concepts in the field of community-based residential services (e.g., Person-Centered Thinking and Practices, normalization, least restrictive alternatives, dignity of risk, community integration).
  • Providing effective documentation for purposes of communication, complying with regulations, and meeting individual needs.
  • Knowledge of reporting procedures for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or fraud.
  • Human Rights and Licensing regulations.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Educational and behavioral programming for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Matching individual needs with effective intervention strategies.
  • Positive behavior support and crisis intervention.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Providing emotional support and promoting self-confidence.
  • Managing daily routine for a large household.
  • Applying first aid techniques.
  • Observation and accurate reporting.
  • Basic computer use, including agency’s electronic health record system and use of email.

Ability to:

  • Successfully complete required training, including first aid, CPR, and physical management.
  • Promote a home-like, yet therapeutic environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and organizational policies and procedures regarding service delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Facilitate and advocate for individual choice and rights for clients.
  • Successfully complete all required training upon hire and as required for renewal.
  • Provide physical assistance to individuals (e.g., lifting, transferring, supporting).
  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide adequate documentation to meet requirements and individual needs.
  • Serve as a role model.
  • Foresee emerging or potential problems and take appropriate action.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of Direct Care Professional and Medication Administration training courses within one year of hire.
  • Once hired, must maintain certification in CPR/First Aid and other required trainings.
  • Must pass required pre-employment screenings, including, but not limited to, criminal history and experience verification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Virginia driver’s license with at least 0 points.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Stand, squat, sit, bend, stoop, stretch.
  • Lift at least 25% of body weight.
  • Assist with wheelchair transfers and push a wheelchair.
  • Facilitate client transition from laying down, sitting, or other positions with or without supports.
  • Work in an environment where latex or food-based allergens may be present.
  • Assist with meal preparation, service, and clean-up.
  • Submit to a tuberculosis screening.

Our ICF program is subject to regulations established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding COVID-19, which require team members to wear a mask at all times around clients. Team members are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain a valid exemption. If you are selected for an interview and not fully vaccinated but believe you may qualify for a religious or medical exemption, you will have the opportunity to request an exemption as part of the pre-hire process.
