Description

Individual needed for LINK Peer Recovery Specialist position. Will be involved in supporting a variety of recovery-focused projects for adult males receiving addiction services via LINK. The individual will work within Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell Counties. Will assist in creating a recovery environment and acting as an advocate for the needs and rights of individual males returning to the community from incarceration and/or males who are the primary caretaker of children. Will act as lead staff in support groups, teaching/training recovery information and recovery tools as part of the Fatherhood Initiative, and post-discharge recovery check-ups. Must model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness by assisting individuals in telling their recovery story, how needs are respectfully met, and how a belief in themselves is maintained. Must model and practice recovery principles in all activities including hope, empowerment, responsibility, mutuality and self-determination. Will transport or escort individuals to various activities to and from programming when assigned by supervisor.

 
Position Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required. Individual must also have personal knowledge and lived experience as a recipient of substance abuse treatment services, as well as on-going involvement in an addiction recovery plan including self-help involvement. Also requires the ability and willingness to share personal experiences as part of providing peer support to adults with addiction issues. Training and on-going supervision required and provided as part of employment. Candidates must pass all CMCSB background screenings.

About the Organization CMCSB was formed in 1972 as a Chapter 10 Community Services Board under Virginia law. CMCSB provides mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse treatment services to the residents of Buchanan, Russell, and Tazewell Counties. At the present time, CMCSB operates over twenty locations, to include outpatient offices, mental health recovery programs, group homes and day support programs for intellectually disabled individuals, and a residential alcohol and drug treatment program. In addition, CMCSB has several services that are provided directly in an individual's home or in a supported environment. CMCSB also provides a 24-hour crisis team to assist community agencies and individuals in crisis situations. CMCSB employs approximately 500 employees, which include full-time and part-time employees, as well as individuals receiving services who are employed to work in various day programs.
