Department: Tohono O'odham Nation Health Care (TONHC)

Division: Facilities Management

Status: Exempt/Full-time

Salary: $72,108.82/annually

Position Summary:

According to standards, safety codes, and regulations, provide overall supervision on all medical equipment services, repairs, and maintenance.

Scope of Work:

The position is located at TON Health Care and works under the Facility Engineering Director's general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Depending on the area of assignment, an incumbent may not be required to perform some of the duties listed below):

  • Supervises Biomedical Equipment Support staff; provides coaching, counseling, training, and feedback to employees; assigns, reviews, and delegates work and job responsibilities to designated staff.
  • Hires, evaluates, disciplines, and develops staff.
  • Coordinates training, orientations, and continuing education of staff.
  • Design, update and implements operational maintenance reports, manuals, and procedures consistent with health clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing the department’s budget and coordinates financial and budget activities for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Receives and prioritizes work orders.
  • Assign work duties to subordinate staff.
  • Supports patient diagnosing and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment.
  • Evaluates new biomedical equipment by conducting tests, ensuring adherence to codes, making modifications.
  • Maintains biomedical equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, conducting tests, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions, calling for special service, evaluating service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Investigates medical equipment hazard reports and device recalls; makes recommendations to supervisor.
  • Train users on biomedical equipment operation by providing equipment operation demonstrations, instructing other healthcare staff in equipment use and care, answering questions, providing information.
  • Evaluates proposed biomedical equipment by conducting tests and evaluations.
  • Improves biomedical equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction, conferring with equipment users, developing modifications, collaborating with equipment manufacturers.
  • Maintains biomedical equipment supplies inventory' by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt.
  • Prepares biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain vacuum and sterilizer systems.
  • Safeguards patient information and keeps information confidential.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy working environment by conducting safety tests, recommending and complying with procedures, training and guiding medical and healthcare personnel, complying with codes.
  • Updates job knowledge by attending and participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications, maintaining personal networks.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by taking ownership of new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Complies with safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Represent the Biomedical Services at all required meetings.
  • Maintain required reports and records.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the current standards and safety codes for biomedical equipment.
  • Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and their components.
  • Skill in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing biomedical equipment.
  • Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Skill in operating equipment and tools.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Ability to use electronic schematics, blueprints, troubleshooting manuals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
  • Ability to travel.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Equipment Technology or related field and three years experience in medical equipment repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position’s duties.
  • One year in supervisory experience.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required to determine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department's needs, the incumbent(s) may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing this job's duties, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. In addition, the employee must frequently lift and move up to 75 pounds. Sometimes, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, working at heights, electrical hazards, and chemical hazards.

Work Environment:

The work is generally performed in interior building settings. Situations may arise where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are expected. The position may require evenings, weekends, extended work hours, or irregular shifts. Travel will be required.
