Field Service Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel independently to domestic and international customer sites in the performance of duties.
  • Provide commissioning services and training at customer locations for all company products.
  • Provide service support by working directly with the customer to resolve technical problems over the phone, via email and in person.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems to resolve problems.
  • Draft and provide formal quotes to customers for service and/or parts as required.
  • Investigate and prepare for onsite calls to ensure an efficient and effective service call.
  • Ensure commissioning is done to customer and Power Tests mutual needs and expectations.
  • Properly document customer interaction, service visits and expense reports.
  • Resolve questions from internal and external customers dealing with the installation, operation, maintenance, and application of our equipment.
  • Provide technical support to sales staff as they work with customers to meet their testing needs.
  • Recommend product improvements to company support staff using appropriate channels as voiced by external and internal customers.
  • Present high standard of professional image at all times when interacting with customer.
  • Be a responsible steward of Power Test and customer equipment, positive reputation, and other resources. Maintain company supplied equipment in ready condition
  • Contribute to the companys Lean and Safety initiatives and demonstrate company values.

Qualifications

  • Travel globally on a flexible schedule up to 50% of each month and able to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Hold a valid drivers license and passport or be able to get a passport within 30-days of employment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Self-directed and detail oriented with superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated PC Proficiency, including MS Office and the ability to learn and adapt to new software systems as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Possess the ability to think under pressure and accurately communicate solutions to customers.
  • Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, the ability to operate electronic testing equipment, the ability to travel, and the ability to read and work from blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, customer specifications, warranties, company standards, and operating, maintenance instructions, write routine reports and correspondence.

Education and/or Experience

At least 2 years hands-on technical experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with industrial machinery, hydraulics equipment, vehicles, engines or engine testing equipment and computer systems. General knowledge of engines and vehicles, AC/DC electrical systems and mechanical systems as well as Data Acquisition and control systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
