GIS Project Technician 

Description

Energy Services West is seeking a project level GIS Proejct Technician to support our growing design and construction team based. This is a project level position, assisting the GIS/Geomatics Manager in efforts to develop, maintain and support a company-wide GIS. The ideal candidate is an efficient leader, communicator and problem-solver who is very comfortable using the latest ArcGIS software and is experienced with an array of geoprocessing tools and their capabilities to problem solve and provide work-around solutions to common ArcGIS processing errors and obstacles. You will have the opportunity to leverage strong geospatial skills and collaborate with experts in various disciplines to apply GIS technologies on a variety of projects within the power generation and transmission industry. Familiarity with the application of GIS in Geologic, Geotechnical, Civil Engineering and/or Environmental fields is a plus.

Duties:

  • Directed management of the processing and updating of existing internal geodatabases under GIS Lead's direction.
  • Directed design/build/management of databases and models/scripts for project-related workflows including field-collection efforts
  • Creative assistance with other databases and system designs.
  • Alongside the GIS Manager, promote company-wide and client use of ArcGIS software.
  • Provide GIS Support in various departments - related to reporting, cartographic presentation or other GIS-related needs.
  • Appropriately delegate task-level assignments/responsibilities to Staff Technicians when necessary.
  • Perform quality checks on active processes.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • GIS/GISP Certification OR Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to comfortably operate the latest versions of ArcGIS (including ArcGIS Online), Google Earth, Microsoft Excel (and other Microsoft Office Suite) and/or QGIS.
  • Experience leveraging AGOL Web Applications for end-user operation (ie: ArcGIS Dashboards, Story Maps, Experiences).

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3 years work experience using ArcGIS in a GIS Technician (or equivalent) role with applied cartography, database management, and spatial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot ArcGIS-related challenges.
  • Strong cartographic and visual design standards to make work products look great for both print and web.
  • Strong data management skills including creating, editing, and transforming GIS data.
  • Experience writing/operating Python script to automate processes.
  • Experience building forms via ArcGIS Survey123 Connect for data collection.
  • Experience with client (or client-adjacent) consulting related to project management.
  • Applied GIS Experience in the civil engineering industry.
