What You Will be Doing

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, manages and directs the employee and labor relations program of I Am Boundless, Inc. The Employee Relations (ER) Manager will act as a resource to senior leadership, managers, and employees throughout the organization. As a subject matter expert in employee and labor relations, this Employee Relations (ER) everages trusting relationships, knowledge of the business, collective bargaining, investigation, employment and labor law, and HR subject matter expertise to guide leaders in creating an effective and positive workplace.

The Employee Relations (ER) will oversee and conduct timely investigations, audits, prepare documentation and make recommendations accordingly. Manage the selection, training, and development of employee relations staff. The Employee Relations (ER) will monitor budget and utilize operational resources appropriately. The Employee Relations (ER) will participate in development of HR policies, procedures, and processes. Counsel and advise managers in interpreting and applying policies and procedures to resolve issues related to disciplinary action and conflict resolution.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of employee and labor relations, collective bargaining and employment laws.
  • Human Resources theories, practices, and techniques.
  • Supervisory principles.
  • Program development and administration principles and practices.

Skill in:

  • Practical application of collective bargaining and employment laws.
  • Effective written and oral communications, listening, presentation, group facilitation; influencing and negotiations.
  • Application of processes for influencing performance management.
  • Effective use of mediation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Computerized systems for word processing, spreadsheet applications and data bases to retrieve and analyze data and/or create reports.
  • Coordinating activities with other internal departments and/or external agencies.
  • Effective project and time management.

Ability to:

  • Reconcile labor relations issues in the context of both existing labor agreements and desired future states of labor and employee relations at Boundless.
  • Work with diverse experience, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff.
  • Manage multiple complex projects concurrently.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human resources, business, or related field.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible, professional experience in collective bargaining and labor relations activities, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience must include leading contract administration, grievance processing, performance management and disciplinary activities, as well as facilitating ongoing communication and working relationships with employees and other stakeholders.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in human resource management or related field.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or PHRM.
  • Experience working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position directly manages the HR Generalist.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and a remote home office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to navigate a typical office environment, sit for extended periods of time, type, read, talk and hear.

Travel
Travel is rare, but primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected on occasion.
