Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for quality child care service delivery in a multi-cultural program. Responsible for hiring and supervising a diverse staff, providing developmentally appropriate, anti-bias curriculum (the ELM Curriculum developed by YWCA Minneapolis), as well as culturally sensitive care. Responsible for provision of special needs resources and for support services for at-risk families. The position is also responsible for enrollment, staffing, budget development and management, as well as the maintenance of a safe, sanitary environment, following child care licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision of Staff:

  • Hire, orient and provide on-going supervision of a diverse teaching staff.
  • Oversee the professional development of the teaching staff.
  • Provide overall supervision of staff.
  • Engage in ongoing performance management of teaching staff.
  • Complete yearly performance evaluations for teaching staff.
  • Coach and train staff according to needs.
  • Keep classrooms adequately staffed while meeting Licensing and NAEYC requirements.

Ensure smooth operation of ECE center as described below:

  • Supervise the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate ant-bias multi-cultural curriculum for each classroom using the ELM.
  • Oversee the assessment and provisions made for special needs services with identified children.
  • Ensure extensive family communication, consultation, support and involvement.
  • Maintain full enrollment through effective marketing.
  • Provide center tours and complete family intakes.
  • Plan and implement family events and support resources.

Handle overall site needs and all record keeping as describe below:

  • Maintain health, safety, licensing, and USDA grants and accreditation standards and records.
  • Develop, implement and monitor program budgets.
  • Participate on ECE Leadership and Directors team.
  • Understand and interpret the YWCA mission to children, staff and families.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Early Childhood Education Director who reports to the Vice President of Early Childhood Education. The incumbent will interact with the Vice President of ECE, ECE Directors, Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Childcare Aides, Substitutes, Specialists, Human Resources, volunteers, children and parents. Individual must have the ability to get to and from various sites/events/meetings in the metro area on an occasional basis.

COMPENSATION: $40,000 to $45,000

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of one year experience working in Early Childhood Education.
  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience.
  • Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications, including yearly in service requirements.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports, newsletter articles and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (within 30 days of employment).

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • AA Degree or BA degree Early Childhood Development, Child Development or closely related field.
  • Director’s credential.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
