Chemical Dependency Counselor

Job Summary

Provides outreach, prevention and outpatient chemical dependency counseling/education to patients served by the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center. Includes diagnostic assessment and documentation for each client in services and activities provided. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision Statements.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Conducts and properly documents interviews, evaluations, assessments and formulates diagnostic impressions.
  2. Provides gender-specific treatment services; includes facilitating individual and group counseling, and supervises urine/saliva collection for toxicology testing.
  3. Establishes and maintains up-to-date and accurate client case records.
  4. Develops individualized treatment plans with client participation that includes skill building for independent living and referrals to other community-based services; also provides educational and resource information.
  5. Advocates for clients in obtaining all types of services to reinforce skills in problem-solving and long term planning; includes arranging for transportation and other aspects to assist in meeting treatment plan goals.
  6. Works as a team with other providers and assists in the continuing development and provision of the CTUIR comprehensive alcohol/substance abuse program.
  7. Requires occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  8. May require travel for training and meetings.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in allied health and/or behavioral science or related, plus three (3) years paid experience in the alcohol/drug field.

OR

High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of paid experience in counseling and five (5) years of experience in the drug/alcohol field.

  1. Must hold a qualified certificate/license as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) through the Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) which includes following the code of conduct as outlined by MHACBO.
  2. Requires First Aid/CPR certification, or the ability to obtain within 3 months.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years sobriety/clean time, if in recovery.
  4. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
  5. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
  6. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and intermittent drug/alcohol testing.
  7. Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of addiction theory and evidence-based treatment models, along with the addictive disease model of alcohol and substance abuse.
  2. Knowledge of problem gambling addiction or ability to learn.
  3. Experience and understanding of proper application of OAR’s related to position.
  4. Experience and/or knowledge of history, culture and health needs of Native American communities preferred.
  5. Experience in a Tribal healthcare system.
