JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Engineering Technician IV - Machinist performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. The Technician receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer, and may be required to assist lower level technicians, as well as have frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishment, as needed. This technician produces machined items through the use of manual and automated equipment.

Position Requirements

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience providing troubleshooting services with electrical, electronic, or mechanical components and/or equipment;
  2. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the operation of related manual and automated equipment used to perform the production and/or repair of required parts
    1. A minimum of one (1) year experience preparing and operating CNC machinery in the performance of tasks, to include by not limited to, drilling, grinding, milling, etc., is desired.
  3. Drafting and machining experience is required.
  4. Demonstrable knowledge of science and engineering;
  5. Practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science is required;
  6. Great working knowledge of electrical, electronics, and mechanical operating principles.
  7. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  8. Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  9. Must be a U.S. Citizen, be able to acquire and maintain any and all necessary security clearances.
  10. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Essential/Typical Duties:

  • Translates instructions into computer commands for the CNC machine to perform the correct functions
  • Prepares and loads raw materials and parts onto the machine
  • Performs test runs to check if the machine produces output according to the required specifications.
  • Sets machine to complete full cycles to fabricate a large number of parts
  • Monitors the machine while tasks are being executed and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
  • Inspects and measures finished products and compares them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
  • Checks and maintains machine daily to ensure functionality
  • Maintains quality and safety standards; keeps records
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;
  • Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data;
  • Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
  • Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
  • Provides semiprofessional technical support for engineers working is such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Occasionally-climbing
  • Often- stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, seeing

Lifting/Moving Requirements:

  • The ability to lift up to 35 pounds is required.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Normally works in an environmentally controlled work area.
