Purpose of Division:

The Division of Communications & Marketing is responsible for developing and execution of the external and internal communications strategies on behalf of the corporation. The Communications & Marketing Division manages the public face of the organization, Including visibility, reputation management, visual identity as well as the corporate website and social media and other communication assets. The division also manages the publishing and distribution of the corporation’s print and electronic publications, and videos. These include the annual report and specialized e-newsletters such as the NeighborWorks Works and NetWorks (an e-newsletter targeted at NeighborWorks organization executive directors, board presidents and their staff). The division also provides graphic design support to other business units throughout the corporation, provides overall content management, site development and design for NeighborWorks America websites, and coordinates the corporation’s Web strategy. This involves establishing and implementing corporate-wide policies, strategies and guidelines, and coordinating audience and strategies that guide the corporation’s Web presence. Public Relations also coordinates the delivery of related Web-based services to the corporation and the NeighborWorks network.

Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Communications & Marketing is the senior communications executive for NeighborWorks® America. This position reports to the President & CEO and will work collaboratively with executive and senior leadership to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to broaden the impact of NeighborWorks’ programs, and oversee organizational messaging and services, while managing the Communications & Marketing Division.

The Senior Vice President is responsible for translating information into messaging that is clear, consistent and effective for all internal and external corporation stakeholders, by applying state-of-the-art principles and practices that epitomize clear and effective communication. In addition, the position will provide communications support for other internal functions and departments, including proactively developing communications messages, plans and tools for the NeighborWorks Network and support the visibility of the Network, in addition to NeighborWorks America.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the communications, marketing and branding efforts of the corporation. Oversee the development and implementation of the corporate media plan and expand and refine key media messages for NeighborWorks America and the Network on a quarterly basis.
  • Develop and implement key communications messages and public relations strategic plan.
  • Oversee the development, refinement and management of the corporation’s primary communications vehicles, including websites, social media, press releases and publications, such as the annual report and print collateral. Serve as executive editor for the organization's website and oversee the corporation’s online delivery channels and develop and implement social media strategies.
  • Collaborates with development team to support the corporation’s brand and ensure consistency of message and competitive positioning. Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support NeighborWorks America and the Network, and create and implement plans to optimize them.
  • Oversee organizational response to media inquiries. Counsels Senior Management, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders on critical communication messages and issues; proactively develops messages and strategies; works with Senior Leadership to anticipate and respond to urgent communication issues.
  • Manages crisis communication and instructs staff on appropriate responses
  • Provides guidance and counseling for Senior Executives on communication strategies and tactics. Assures senior management is appropriately prepared and trained to handle media responses and be strong spokespeople for the corporation.
  • Creates and coordinates executive messages for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Draft executive announcements, public statements and press releases; write speeches, develop presentations and compile preparatory documents.
  • Track organizational accomplishments and plan external communications, develop content for campaign letters, craft press releases and public service announcements, when necessary. Represent agency at media/public relation events.
  • Maintain direct responsibility for the management of staff and processes of the Public Relations division. Ensures appropriate staff are trained on effective media relations skills.
  • Develop and manage internal systems, interdepartmental relationships, and other functions that support the goals and objectives of the Public Relations Division.
  • Provide team support to marketing and communications efforts of other divisions involved in selling services or promoting programmatic work (e.g., the corporations for-sale training, technical assistance and technology tools)
  • Use analytics to track and evaluate the effectiveness of different communications and public affairs practices, tools and campaigns; present analyses to officers and other senior staff; and implement changes to achieve greatest impact.
  • Develop effective tools and strategies to assist the Network in their public relations, communications and marketing efforts. Refresh on a frequent basis.
  • Develop strong relationships with the Network to understand their public relations needs and perspectives.
  • Manage a Network Communications Advisory Committee.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the Director of Field Operations and the Field PACAs and participate in performance reviews and work plan setting,
  • Serve as a member of the senior management team.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Nature of Work Contacts:
Extensive contact with media representatives and communications executives with leading housing sector organizations. Senior management levels within corporations, foundations, financial institutions, federal agencies, trade associations and national nonprofit organizations for the purpose of exchanging information. Executive levels of NeighborWorks® organizations to respond to inquiries. Senior managers and functional peers in NeighborWorks® America for the purpose of supporting public relations efforts.


Fiscal Responsibilities: Manages an annual Divisional budget

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in journalism, public relations, communications or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university, with a minimum of 8 -10 years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in communications, public relations and marketing; or any combination of training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge abilities and skills:
