Accounting Supervisor 



A bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study preferred; specialized bank accounting education and training.


A minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting/finance, and at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the daily operations and processes to support the functions of the Accounting/Finance Department;
  • Supervises staff to assure that the department accomplishes accounting objectives by organizing, assigning, managing, and mentoring employees;
  • Responds promptly to inquiries or requests for information;
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information;
  • Ensures the department's compliance with operating policies and procedures, including bank and regulatory requirements;
  • Able to prioritize and reprioritize to meet expectations, goals and deadlines;
  • Performs well independently and in a team environment; effectively communicates with supervisor and CFO;
  • Supports the implementation of strategies to achieve major initiatives developed for the department as a part of the Companys annual strategic and business plans.


1. Manages operational functions of the Accounting Department in order to ensure the proper control of all bank accounting and finance activities by performing various duties of which the following are illustrative:

  1. Administers and manages the banks wire transfer process facilitated through WireXchange, including roles and responsibilities both inside and outside of the department. Ensures compliance with current and future policy and regulatory requirements (i.e. BSA, OFAC), communicates and educates such requirements to all personnel.
  2. Participates and manages an efficient accounts payable process. Ensures appropriate expenditure approval, timely processing, and payment of employee and vendor invoices, as well as the overall efficiency of the process from entry to endpoint.
  3. Responsible for monitoring the daily activities of the banks Federal Reserve account, as well as administrator for services, subscriber access, and functions related to the Federal Reserve Banks online portal, Fedline Advantage.
  4. Oversees the reconciliation process of internal accounts and general ledgers and ensures the timely preparation and resolution of outstanding items.
  5. Responsible for the captive insurance process, its coordination, and the timely filing of claims.
  6. Assists in maintaining established general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts which meets the reporting requirements of all regulatory agencies and which provides adequate operating and financial data to responsibility centers.
  7. Prepares and manages the accuracy of management information reports.

2. Demonstrates leadership, training, and technical guidance to department staff, thus promoting an environment of learning and knowledge. Facilitates positive relationships with coworkers and bank personnel.

3. Organizes the work and activities for all operational functions supervised in the Accounting Department in order to achieve established goals; monitors the efficiency and performance of the department according to established services standards.

4. Coordinates departmental tasks with coworkers, both inside and outside the department, to ensure an efficient process and the completion of essential tasks that need proper segregation of duties.

5. Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping employee and company financial information confidential.

6. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management, overall safety and soundness, and the banks compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc..

7. Assists in preparation of internal and external audit requests and the ongoing adherence of audit controls established in the Accounting department and all its related business processes and functions.

8. Implements strategies to achieve goals assigned to the department as established in the Companys annual operating plan; assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the department, for SBFG and all affiliates, as well as adherence to budget.

9. Communicates with the Chief Financial Officer, other department managers, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

10. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place.

11. Other duties as assigned.

  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual or departmental circumstances.

  • Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Occasionally exposed to high temperatures and low temperatures.
  • Occasionally has to work around noisy environments.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
